Greetings Rosalind!

Hi Bamutiire. Due to unforseen, personal circumstances, we had to stop it, mostly due to time constraints, it took up most all our time. Also we didn't have a proper marketing strategy to make an income from it, which is another reason why we stopped it. I'm still in touch with Sarah, her career has taken her in a different direction for now and I can't see that we will be able to take on the magazine again. It was so much fun to produce and we were sad to have to stop it, but it just wasn't working out for us. I'm so glad you enjoyed reading it :)

Hi Rosalind! Thanks for the "plug" for Stage 32. I'm just now getting into it and starting to reach out for more networking. With so much negativity on most of the other social media outlets, t's good to hear others sing its praises.

Hi Melanie. Yes, it is the best place to be for learning. I did not know anything about script writing before I found it and it was thanks to members allowing me to edit their scripts for free in the beginning to practise and learn everything. Script services have been a godssend and has allowed me to improve my script greatly. The advice and help I've received is priceless.

Edward. Wow, thank you, glad you enjoyed my blog :)

Selma. My Great Grandparents, Harry and Rebecca left Warsaw in the early 1900s during the troubles there. Rebecca's family went to America, Harry and Rebecca came to England and settled in London. They had two daughters. After some years, they decided they wanted to travel to America to rejoin Rebecca's family and start a new life there. They bought four tickets, which happened to be for the Titanic. A few days before they were due to leave, one of the children (who were 5 and 3 years old) became ill and couldn't travel, so it was decided that Harry would go and Rebecca would stay in London with the girls and join Harry another time. Before the ship set sail, Harry sent a postcard to Rebecca. Harry died when the Titanic sank on the 15th April 1912. The postcard has survived the decades and been passed down the generations to me and I have it in a frame on my table. It's worn, dog eared, yellowed and written in a Hebrew script, but it is my most treasured possession. These are all the details that we know, so I have had to make a lot up to fill a full length feature. The difficulty I'm having, is giving Rebecca a complete arc. I have received amazing feedback from readers here on Stage 32, but the running comments I get all the time, is that Rebecca doesn't 'change' enough through the story, so that is something I'm working on right now :)

Hi Rosalind Winton that's an amazing story and it's so amazing that you're also a song writer.

My team and I shot a proof of concept tv show pilot during the summer and the lead talent wanted to try himself in making a score for the pilot and I was so amazed how great of a job he did.

So I'd say just find an opportunity to do it and I'm willing to bet that it will be amazing both the experience as well as what you'll create because you've got the desire to do so.

By the way can you tell me a little bit more about what a literary editor does?

Hi Vital, thank you for your message, your words are very encouraging. My editing work entailes reading through a piece of work, which could be absolutely anything from full length novels, children's books, articles, business reports, blogs, anything at all and I will look at grammar and spelling, continuity, character and story development, format if it's a screenplay and anything else that comes to light during a read through of a piece of work. In essence I help writers and authors bring their work up to a very high standard. I can also help with synopses and covering letters to publishers/agents etc.

Well I have dyslexia and thankfully my girlfriends sister is willing to read anything important that I write and point out stuff because I tend to miss things.

So I guess having someone who goes trough stuff that people write is a valuable thing. :)

Vital, it certainly is. Both my husband and younger daughter are dyslexic and that is why I got into editing, I help them all the time with anything word releated that they do. I'm glad you have your sister to help you and if you need any help in the future, please let me know :)

Oh my God, I'm in awe. Would love to be able to write songs. I would be hopeless at that. So jealous.

Claude. I do mainly only write lyrics. I have composed my own melodies now and then, but 99.9 percent of the time, I write the lyrics and then my musician friends compose the music. I can read music and play very basic acoustic guitar, but I can't compose music, or sing lol. Yes, I do have to 'crawl' into the subject, or character I'm writing about/for. Once I have a concept in my head, it's usually fairly easy for me. Sometimes it can take half an hour to write a lyric, other times, days, weeks and sometimes months. Every challenge is different and a great experience.

What a story! Thank you for sharing it. I'd love to see the postcard. You say that you are having trouble with finding an arc. I've been told that with true stories, it isn't always necessary to have an arc. I have written a screenplay about Carole Lombard and she died suddenly and tragically - like Harry - there isn't an arc and several people have read it and it hasn't mattered. However...what is the time of your story? Think of other true stories and look for the arc. You might be surprised.

Hi Selma, wow, thanks for that and great to know, thanks for the advice, I will certainly do that. The story is set between 1905 and 1912, it has been so much fun to research while writing. Here is a picture of the postcard that is written in the Hebrew script they used in the village that they originally came from in Poland.

And this is the other side (can only post one pic at a time). We had it translated by a language expert and it something along the lines of that he is on the ship, which is big, but cold, he misses Rebecca and the girls and he can't wait to see them again.

Hi Bamutiire, WOW, what incredible advice, Oh my goodness, I wouldn't know where to start LOL. It's taken me three years to write the screenplay lol. I never would have considered a documentary, but your reasons for doing so, are certainly sound and definitely makes sense. I will certainly give it serious thought, thank you so much :)
