Introduce Yourself : Caribbean Actress/Screenwriter by Teneille Newallo

Teneille Newallo

Caribbean Actress/Screenwriter

Hi everyone! Just here looking to connect with other likeminded folks. I'm from Trinidad & Tobago. Recently polished two scripts -- a fantasy pilot and a horror/thriller feature -- and have been sending them out in hopes of finding representation. Recently placed in a couple pitching competitions so now crossing my fingers as I await results from a few screenwriting contests. Been in the game for a bit but trying to branch into international territory. :)

Anyone with advice about finding a good rep, please, I'm all ears!

Hi Teneille! Nice to meet you!

Sarah Gabrielle Baron

Hi Teneille. What a stellar career you already have! This is the right place for you to start making connections. Take a deep dive into the producers ready to hear your pitches under Script Services. Do a lot of research before bying a script service, be it the 5 minute verbal or 2 page written, or the more in-deptch connecitons where they read your script and meet with you, or the mentor options. I am really impressed. I want to watch Cutlass!

Hey Sarah, thank you so much for the advice and well wishes, will definitely take it all into consideration! <3

Hi Teneille, good luck with the competitions, trying to polish off my first ever script,, also looking for guidance and advice

Teneille Newallo

Hey Samantha! One thing I definitely can say is that your first script is never ready when you think it is. Get as many people as you can to read and give you feedback before you do a polish. For my recent pilot, I went as far as having a table read with some of the best actors in Trinidad and this is something I had been working on for nearly ten years! That may not be accessible to you so maybe focus on getting it into the hands of as many writers as you can -- family and friends tend to read through rose-colored glasses :) If you really want to improve your script and your writing, you will want constructive criticism. That's difficult sometimes but it's a skill we all learn to develop, to take what seems like negative criticism at the time and see how it can positively impact the rewrite of a screenplay. :) Hope that helps!

Hi, Teneille Newallo! Congrats on all your success! Jason Mirch (j.mirch@stage32.com), the Director of Script Services here on Stage 32 is a great person to ask all things career. I would definitely reach out to him. We have some amazing exec’s from Universal, MGM, Mandalay Pictures, HBOMax and many others to help with development and script services. You can check out the options under “Script Services,” but Jason is a great resource to match your script with the right exec. As far as your pitches, we hold a weekly Pitch Tank Practice in the Writers’ Room (along with other amazing perks like table reads, pitching exec’s, script coverage and more). Jason can help you out with a free month there as well!
