Hello Stage 32 colleagues . I'm Michelle from Arizona and fairly new to Stage 32.
I would have never guessed that when my husband said, "That would make a great movie, and you should write it", writing screenplays would become an obsession. My family thinks otherwise. They remember the 10 year old me watching the 10 am, 1 pm, 3 pm, 7 pm, 9 pm, midnight and sometimes even the 3 am movie marathons. Most of all, I remember my mom letting me skip school on Wednesday's so she and I could go to Ladies Day at the Movies. I lovingly blame her for my obsession.
I work a full time job, which makes moving the dial forward on this writing career a little difficult, but I take great inspiration from all of your stories of success and challenges. Thanks so much everyone!
Thank you so much for sharing Michelle Conklin! I absolutely LOVE that you and your mom had a Wednesday ditch day to go to the movies today. Is there a particular movie from that time that sticks out when you look back on that time?

hands down: Cabaret!
Hey, Michelle Conklin! Welcome to the community! Wow, I just love that backstory - not just that you didn't see it coming, but that everyone else did. I also have an incredibly close relationship to my mother, who introduced me to indie cinemas, foreign films, and dollar theaters (she still frequents the cheap, local theaters to keep the dream alive).
I’m sure you’ve already discovered the Screenwriting Lounge (https://www.stage32.com/lounge/screenwriting), but definitely reach out on the Acting Lounge (https://www.stage32.com/lounge/acting) for insight into characters, dialogue, and even when you want to generate interest in a virtual table read!
Are you looking to sell your scripts or are you thinking to help make them?

Thanks for reaching out Kay! I haven't been very active - let me start over: I haven't been active at all in the lounge. I never thought about using it as a means to a virtual read - thank you for that tip!
Today, I'm looking to sell my scripts. Although there is one I would like to make, a short called, "My Cannoli". MC is a 10 page family comedy.

Hi Michelle Conklin welcome!!!!! And I will say, your mom is the best for letting you skip school! lol
Hey Michelle! Great to see you on here!! Write on!
Hi Michelle! Great to see a fellow Arizona writer on here! I too have been lurking around here absorbing more than contributing. But I guess I’ll start trying to change that too! And I feel you on the balancing act of working and writing!
I work full-time, and I know what you go through. ;) Still working on my first scripts, after publishing several novels. Keep up and don't give up. It's a lot of work, but it's so worth it.
You should definitely make that 10-page family comedy! From the title, I immediately started singing it to the tune of the 80's song, "My Sharona": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BR2JtsVumFA Apparently it's from '79?! Huh.
And with a short film, organizing a little table read wouldn't take much and it's SO energizing to have it read out loud!
For the scripts you're looking to sell, have you put together a pitch for any of them? I would recommend using Stage 32's free Pitching Guidebook to help you structure your pitch: https://www.stage32.com/sites/stage32.com/themes/two/pdfs/happy-writers/...
Once you have your 2-page written pitch document or 5-minute verbal pitch read, sign up for a pitch session with an active development executive here: https://www.stage32.com/scriptservices/pitch-sessions If you're not sure who to sign up with, definitely reach out to our Director of Script Services, Jason Mirch, who is excellent at matching projects with potential executives (or maybe managers, in your case): J.Mirch@stage32.com
