I've only been on stage32 for a week or so and already I have met and talked with some cool people. So many people have already given me great advice and information.
My question today is, I have read so many different ways to get your script read. So many "the best way to break into the industry" articles. I am wondering does anyone feel there is a best way? Ways to not take? Or should a person try it all? If so is there an order you should try everything, or just a free for all?
What would people suggest?
There is no secret handshake or codeword; it takes passion, perseverance and a whole lot of hard work.
Paul Haggis is one of your townies from London Ontario. He's been nominated three years in a row, won twice (Million Dollar Baby & Crash). He's been involved in lots of stuff since - Letters from Iwo Jima, Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace... Last I heard he was living in Glendale, CA. He did it - so can you.
Thanks for the words of encouragement. I did not know that Paul Haggis was from London Ontario.
Sounds like you've been in the thick of things. Great to hear from someone that has so much experience in the industry. From the time I was a a child I dreamed of acting/writing but Hollywood was just that a dream. Would love to hear some of your stories and experiences.
I will keep trying. I understand it from the other side. So many writers and so many great scripts. Me, I see myself as an Okay writer with great ideas. Trying to get better and better each day.
Again thanks for reaching out much appreciated.
Yes keep trying but working on your craft is as important as anything else… I am Canadian too please add me to your network
Other than writing, writing, writing... Get on set, even as a volunteer. Meet people. Work hard, be professional, give more than take. Have patience - it's a marathon, not a sprint.
There is no one way to work in the industry, and at the risk of giving too broad of advice, just make yourself available. When looking for work, be available to say yes and be one of the first people to say yes. Everything else is just details.
