Someone might find this interesting

So the green screen is done! And all for about the cost of renting one here for a few days. Sure there was a bit of elbow grease involved, but now i have a 8x5 m green screen that i can shoot most things on.

We used a paint sold here in NZ called "wellywood" that was formulated by Peter Jackson, and lit it with 6 cheap flicker free 30w leds with soft boxes. Still need to put up tracking markers but it keys fine :)

About a month ago i managed to pick up 56 set flats from a show shot here (screening in the states though) that had wrapped it final season. So in about a month, I will build a stylised 1950s french town street for a short film and I'll be able run camera/technology tests for my film too.

I know there are a heap of people that have come from writing to get to this point, so hopefully i can show a different way of going about things and perhaps inspire someone.

For some reason the image didnt attach so i hope this works.

Jackie Tarascio

fascinating! Can't wait to see the next update!

Madison Goodyear-Brown

Wow! That’s so cool. Congrats on your progress! I’ll second Jackie in saying I can’t wait to see what comes next!

James Bennett

Thanks everyone! Pretty exiting times.

Cherelynn Baker

Wellywood for the win! Good luck and have fun creating!

James Bennett

Cherelynn Baker ha thanks! Have you worked over here?

Amanda Toney

Congratulations James! Looks amazing! What's the first thing you're going to shoot on it?

Mister Lou

This is amazing! Didn't know Peter Jackson has his own paint line. Will check that out. Your idea sounds really cool. Is this live action? Thanks for sharing!

James Bennett

Thanks for all the love. We are starting camera, motion control, and lighting tests this week. Personally, i have a few space ships I'm excited to get filmed. I'm going to be shooting miniatures similar to how they render cgi in many passes and composite together. I think i got into this industry so i can just be a big kid and have fun!

@Lou Bernal Shooting live action, with miniatures and a bit of unreal engine for set extensions. Pretty much old school meets new school. The paint Wellywood is avalible through resene here in NZ if thats any help :)

Mister Lou

James Bennett Legit would love to see this footage! Always fascinated as to how artists work with practical and use some cg to touch it up. That helps. Going to see if it's even available in California. AAH

@Lou Bernal will post tests and breakdowns here when we start turning around the test shots. :)
