Interesting...this kind of reminds me of the Transformer series. Is it something like that?

I would tell it through a one person’s eyes.
A girl is on a distance planet with her family and several aliens must battle a horrific species and harsh climate to find the final ingredient to a substance that will save her home planet.
This focuses on the task rather than a shop list of characters. This is even sparse. I would drop a bit more and discuss the struggles on the planet or a conflict in the group as well.
