Short Sci-Fi Film Distribution

Hello Everyone!

I hope you are all well.

I was wondering if anyone has experience distributing short sci-fi/horror films to DUST/ALTER, and if so, do you have any advice or tips on that process?

I'm looking at potential distribution platforms/routes for my sci-fi short film, so I'm open to any advice or tips anyone has!

Thank you all!

Possibly a good option for short sci-fi/horror shorts. But would always suggest reviewing the distribution agreement with your production legal counsel first. It would be helpful if they would show their terms before you pay fees to submit. One other thing is that Dust/Alter (like all distributors) require the filmmaker to have all necessary rights, including music.

Dane Johnson Thank you! Agreed, I noticed a few online platforms require you to pay a small fee just to submit (like film festivals...)

I have a short on Altar. I just emailed them and they gave me a small stipend. They are very cool but I think they are also rather selective to their taste. I definitely recommend.

Jonathsn Hammond Hi! Congrats! And yeah, I submitted a month ago and even e-mailed them letting them know I submitted and just got an automatic response...haven't heard anything since. Just not sure if I should wait to hear back before submitting elsewhere (would LOVE DUST to be our launch platform...)

Karen "Kay" Ross

I feel sure Emily Skye hosted her short on DUST before it became a feature... yep! Found it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnfqkEYEDpA

Karen "Kay" Ross Hi Kay, thank you for sharing! I just watched "River" - it was beautifully shot!

There are some distributors/sales agents that specialise in short films. If you know of any similar films that have received distribution you can look on the company credits on their IMDb page to see a list of companies that might be a good fit for you. In the list of distribution companies, the international sales agent is usually the company listed as "(worldwide)".

Ewan Dunbar Thank you for the information! I'll look into it and see what I can find :)
