FilmHub

I'm curious to know if anyone here has had any success with FilmHub? Are these aggregator/distribution sites really worth the effort for indies?

David Santo

A producer I know just went with indie rights for his feature. so far so good

I have a few friends that did well with FilmHub, I wasn't one of them since I didn't have any new film with them but rather old films I am trying with them but just didn't work out. All my films are currently repped by a distributor that I'm very happy with (my relationship with them is very different from many, they even commissioned me to make 5 3.5mins short films). And yea, I do get paid from the films they represent.

I have had very negative experience with FilmHub and cannot recommend them.

They are good for low-budget indie films, especially if your goal is just to get your film out onto platforms you normally can't go straight to without a distributor. With them my indie (super low budget) feature is on 10 platforms and has been seen in 7 countries, which is pretty cool!

I have asked for a survey on FilmHub, and anyone willing to discuss filmhub with me directly (or any other distributor) for the purposes of research and ratings via the Independent Producers Guild (independentproducersguild.org) please contact me here or at directorshadow@independentproducersguild.org

Julia Beney It's nice to be on platforms and theoretically seen - the question on everyone's mind is are they making you any money? I would love for you to contact me and discuss this.

Shadow Dragu-Mihai, Esq., Ipg Fair, Film Hub works with a more self-distribute model so you really need to put money aside for marketing your project if you want to make a decent profit. It all depends on your film and where you want it to go :)

From the research I've done since I posted this I haven't heard too many good things regarding FilmHub. Thanks everyone for their feedback!

I used them a few times. My main issue was how long it took to get paid. It was six months in one case. I stopped using them for this reason alone. They have shown promise however. I do like the business model. I think it’s madness to pay aggregators thousands of dollars upfront and then on top it they take a percentage, so in this light I like FilmHub but my experiences with them are “meh” … For example, I’ve told them to take two of my films down and still keep getting emails from them about setting up my closed captions, when my films shouldn’t be there in the first place. I think in a few years they might have the wrinkles all out. Just proceed with caution is my best advice. Good luck!

Well, I just have a very unpleasant experience with them. I have a feature film that I submitted June 2021 and it didn't pass their qc, so I told them to remove it, (according to them it is not on any channel, and it is not public, yet, under my dashboard it showed submitted for distribution, and it's locked)

On July 2021, I got email that it didn't past QC so I told them to remove it

On Sep 2021, I got another email asking me if I want to proceed, and I said no. Remove it.

This past Wednesday (2/8/22), I received an email stating that my movie can potentially be a high earned film and that they would be happy to do the fixes for me and they can deduct it when the movie makes $

I was confused because, it was not on any catalog and I asked them to remove it a while back.

Shelly, responded stating that they can notify everywhere that to take down the title...

now I got more confused, notify everywhere to take down, that means it was out? without my consent?

Then I told her I want it to be removed. She replied they can't because it can cause errors on payment and history record... Again, a movie that was never approved, how would there be any payment/history record?

This is putting a bad taste on my mouth.

I hope Alan (The CEO) is here and reads this... how can a title that has not gone out have any payment history or record?

Karen "Kay" Ross

Wow - thank you for sharing that story, Johnny K. Wu! That's disconcerting... they need to fix their QC process!

Johnny K. Wu I would like to speak with you about your experience directly. As an independent streamer, Facet.TV has decided not to deal with FilmHub as our experience with them was very negative. Your experience is relevant to the general review of marketplaces and distributors being conducted at the independentproducersguild.org

That definitely sounds shady Johnny K. Wu. Yikes!

Don Zorbas

Hi. Any platforms you recommend for short films?

Johnny K. Wu

Filmhub also takes short films

The payout might be low, based on your content, but I have had success distributing it to major and minor streamers
