On Writing : What would you do? by OB Nwani

What would you do?

Hey guys I haven't been on this lounge in a while, but in my script  Anonymous Avenue the main character gets transferred to a place where everyone is happy, its always sunshine, and everyone lives in nice big mansions. But the catch is there's no name, so the question is would you live in a paradise city with no name and if so why?

Santiago Tamagnone

I don't get the balance there. Losing the name implies losing the identity? You mean like slowly losing your personality? Or is it just the lack of a literal name? Cause if it is the latter, it's not even a question. Paradise 100% of the time.

To be honest, it doesn't seem like two things that have an interesting connection. Now, if in order to live in that paradise, you had to assimilate every cultural element, personality trait and quirks of the avenue in yourself, making everyone basically the same person... that could be interesting. It would work like a cult does and create an interesting parallel. It could also work as a metaphore for immigration

I would explore that road. And make it so that you have a period of time to assimilate (like two weeks and if you don't you are out, for example)

Just my take

Name wouldn't matter to me as long as I am happy and all my wishes are fulfilled

THE TWIST: Well I know I should not spoil the ending but here it goes. So in the end of my screenplay Anonymous Avenue its revealed that the main character Joseph Cole was actually living in a coma for 50 years after getting into a car accident trying to make on time to work. The paradise he is living is all in his subconscious mind due to the fact that nobody in the city doesn't know what the name is neither. Throughout the rest of my screenplay the main character is in denial that this place is real trying his best to escape or better yet trying to wake up from his coma.

Check "Stay" or "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind", see how those successful movies tackled the similar subject...twist is lame as it is, same as "it's all a bad dream" trope...try again and better
