Rewriting a tv pilot episode script for a limited tv miniseries

So I am in the process of adapting my feature film screenplay into a limited television miniseries. How many rewrites for a television pilot are usually required before agreeing on a draft that can be used for filming?

Lleeya Sherrod

It depends on the writer. However, once you feel good about the script getting notes from other people is very important. Try checking out Stage 32's script consulting and coverage services when you're ready to get feedback on your project.

The big word in that sentence is “Agreeing”. Getting people (and perhaps just yourself) to agree is variable and sometimes impossible.

It really depends on who all is involved in the making of this project. When I wrote a short that was being made by a local contest I had to create many different rewrites in order to try and make an entire committee of people happy.

It began as a simple horror/thriller then they wanted a comedic element, then they wanted no comedy in it then they wanted more comedy in it, etc.

I can't tell you how many drafts I finally finished with but I did end up writing three very different stories worked around the same premise and let them decide on which one they liked best.

As many as it takes. If you have an agreement with a company for a year, they will see how development goes and if it looks like its close they may extend the agreement. But if it looks like it isn't getting anywhere they may drop it. It won't be made if the producers/production partners don't it isn't ready.

No idea, sir. Never wrote a tv pilot for corporate-streamers & networks. To be honest, I don't have the skills/experience to be a tv series creator.

Ideally the dream gig is to receive tv co-creator credit and never work on the series, or write anything more than the pilot episode. But still get paid forever the life of the series.

Google writer Jeff Lieber (LOST) and hedge fund manager Andrew Sorkin (BILLIONS).

Writer Mickey Fisher documented his journey from nobody with 0 tv experience to co-creating a tv series with Spielberg. I think their timeline was less than a year from paper to tv production.(And Fisher didnt get paid for rewrites).

Hooked up with a web-show series back in 2015...we did like brainstorming for a year or so before going into writing/directing pieces for each contributor...all my ideas were originals done only for that show (approved of course) never converted anything in/out of that...not showing those pieces even as a writing samples...show is still on, I reckon...

Basic is this...I'd not go into inventing TV stuff on my own...do whatever is needed to get staffed, but getting into with a solo concept, no strings behind? Not likely I'd say...
