Introduce Yourself : Dutch wannabee screenwriter by Ingo Haumann

Ingo Haumann

Dutch wannabee screenwriter

Hey you lot,

I'm from the Netherlands and have never written a completed screenplay or a script in my life; although I have written short stories. I have played with the script concept a lot, and have read and studied several.

I want to take a serious stab at finishing one now; the time seems right for it. I have a great idea, which I'm pouring most of my free time in at the moment; yes, I have a day job. ;o) The world building process alone has me excited, as I'm designing my story and characters to inhabit that world. I've already had to let go of a major concept in that world, as it clashed with the reality I needed. A set-back that just makes me more creative, so I love it.

I joined here to see what resources are available, and whether this would turn into a good way to get a toe in the door; it'll be a while before I can use my foot. In the meantime I'll shamelessly use the moniker "screenwriter" on here, even though I'm just posing as one for now.

English is my second (strictly speaking third) language, which I hope is not a problem when writing for the English speaking world.

I think that's enough. Thank you for having me!

Cheers,

Ingo

Welcome to S32! And congrats on getting started toward reaching your goal.

Welcome Ingo! Are you writing a story about a struggling screenwriter who finds it hard to move forward in his "career" and another screenwriter who has everything going very well for him in the industry? ;) :)

Heather L McQuaid

That's exactly how I got started. Didn't seem possible to write a 110 page script, but 5 months later I had my first screenplay. :) You're already a storyteller...which is a big advantage. Keep cracking on!

David Mailman

You're English is excellent. Screenwriting is a roller coaster. Fasten your seatbelt. It's going to be a bumpy ride.

Maurice Vaughan

Welcome to the community, Ingo Haumann. World-building is one of the most exciting parts of screenwriting. You can learn more about screenwriting in the Screenwriting lounge (www.stage32.com/lounge/screenwriting). You can find a lot of resources in that lounge (and the other lounges), in the blogs, in the Education section (tab near the top of the website), and the Writers' Room. You're also welcome to get in touch with me for screenwriting advice.

Maurice Vaughan

Congrats on writing your first script, Heather!

Hi Ingo! Def check out AZ Yeaman’s lab on screenwriting. It’s great and can really show you a step by step process for writing a script. Also when your script is ready, the readers on here are really good for feedback

Sam Sokolow

Hi Ingo - great to meet you! You’re in a great and supportive community here. I’m the head of education here at Stage 32 - let me know if I can ever be of service to you on your Stage 32 journey!

Ingo Haumann

Thank you all for the warm welcome and words of encouragement! It does indeed sound like I came to the right place.

@emilyjwrites, the search on here cannot seem to find "AZ Yeaman's lab" on Stage32, which sounds interesting. Do you perhaps have a direct link for me?

Ingo Haumann

Right, thank you Colette! Still working out how everything works on here.

Jo Gomesh

Hi Ingo! I can relate to what you are going through! I finished my screenplay last month and I wrote everything in English (my second language). Best of luck to you!

Drew Vaeth

Sounds like you've got the right stride Ingo! I'm in the midst of world building for a feature length myself and every day of development is a winding trail of plot twists and turns... keep writing up a storm!
