Screenwriting : Austin Film Festival by Alan J. Field

Alan J. Field

Austin Film Festival

I am excited about attending the AFF this year.

Any advice on how to get the most out of the writers conference? How should I prepare for it? Should I bring copies of my screenplays and look books? Is volunteering to help out with the panels worthwhile?

Hi Alan, I would, enjoy the festival

I've been to AFF twice and most attendees don't want people pitching them at panels or films. I'd lay back, go to some festival mixers and collect business cards from people after making some pleasant conversation. Send them PDF files of screenplays or manuscripts if someone shows an interest. Good luck.

Hi Phil, interesting

Ure invited or on a self-venture? If second, just try to have a good time and mingle, eye protentional connections...If ure invited to a special event (like workshop, pitch session, etc) get your stuff ready ...

Been to AFF once but to Austin 3x. Great city. Maybe make it a vacation besides attending AFF.

Leave paper scripts/lookbooks at home, or save to pdf's.

I would find a hotel walking distance.

I dont think guest ppl outside of AFF events want to be solicited. Just bad etiquette. Dont pitch in elevators, bathrooms... but maybe after a round of drinks on you.

Have fun!
