I am a fan of every horror that Jordan Peele attaches his name to. My goodness, he has to be one of the current kings of the genre. Even re-watching his movies is like watching it again for the first time.
Absolutely, but it should be differentiated from scary movies. Anybody can make a terrifying scary movie ("Lights Out" started as a YouTube video), but not everybody knows how to horrify an audience.
There are some huge fans of Horror here! One company I have partnered with is developing low budget/high concept Horror and just wrapped its first production in Canada. We're closing in on financing for the next. Horror is one of those genres that is generally popular around the world (though there are always some taboos that keep them out of certain territories - China famously won't allow films that depict ghosts or spirits).
Well, I'll agree, the horror genre is a huge market and it is full of a lot of projects that, well let's say, I wouldn't spend my time watching. However, I will never refer to them as trash or any film for that matter. The Reason is that they have managed to take an idea and get it filmed and brought to fruition. So I won't go so far as to make such a heavy statement. There's always going to be "likes" and "dislikes" especially where art and entertainment is concerned.
For the most part, the reason I posted this question was to gain an understanding of the culture on this site. "Likes and dislikes," so to speak.

Horror is a good broad genre. I am not a dripping blood sort of guy.

Neither am I, I don't consider those to be horror. Just "Gore". there has a to be a fear factor, more than a "gross-out" factor.

I do. Maybe that's because I've been married 3x.

Yes, Me! More mystery and suspense type horror. Not slasher/gore type films.

Horror and Horror/Comedy. I try to stay away from gore (when I write scripts and watch movies).
