Screenwriting : What are you working on? by Sam Sokolow

Sam Sokolow

What are you working on?

Happy creative Saturday everyone. I get inspired by everyone’s work here. Wondering what you’re working on that’s exciting to you at the moment? Please share… thanks!

Amazing Kacee

I am finishing up a pitch deck for a new tv series a CBS executive requested, I am re-editing a sizzle reel to incorporate new stuff for another producer, writing a new tv pilot geared toward tweens, and editing my web-series pilot episode! Time management is very real in my life. Of course, my day is 20 hours, when I am in the zone I rarely get tired and usually have to force myself to take a nap. Thanks for the question - hope you are doing amazing this weekend!

Sabrina Miller

I’m fifty-nine pages into a sequel to Galaxy Quest, a sequel only to be enjoyed in the mind’s eye of me and a few of my friends. Writing the screenplay is proving to be a fun and useful exercise for honing my craft, especially my grasp of three act structure. Also, I’ve got pen and notebook at the ready to begin generating some original story ideas later on. I’m going to start with the phrase “what if” and see where it leads me.

Jim Boston

Sam, I'm finally typing out a screenplay I've been thinking about for the last two years: "Intervention!"

This comedy-drama involves four neighboring families in modern-day San Diego who answer their anger over years of racist slights in their lives by enticing the perpetrators into a sensitivity-training weekend...and in the process, they hope to teach the perps what unity's all about.

Thanks for being part of the Stage 32 family...all the VERY BEST to you!

Yaseen Ali

I'm writing a fantasy/action series called Everlasting Grudge.

Logline: "When monsters from another dimension invade earth, a group of teenagers struggles to save the planet - armed only with weapons found in video games."

I pitched it to an executive via Roadmap Writers and he liked it so much he's currently reading my pilot script.

Amman Mohammed

Working with a STAGE32 screenwriter on her script about a State Trooper in Smallsville, UTAH investigating a missing woman (Native American) case.

Sheila D. Boyd

Touching up scripts for a podcast, unlearning "show, don't tell" in the process.

Maurice Vaughan

How are you, Sam Sokolow? I'm writing a short script with a writer/director. We're almost done.

Maurice Vaughan

Terrific projects, everyone. You could use the Galaxy Quest sequel as a writing sample, Sabrina Miller.

Doug Nelson

I'm fighting with my new super-dupper editing computer - it's winning so far. Hey does anybody happen to know if FD 12 is compatible with windows 12?

Maurice Vaughan

I'm not sure, Doug. You can contact Final Draft. https://www.finaldraft.com/contact/

Deneuve Brutus

Just finished the first draft to a pilot for an Afro-futurism animated adventure about magical orphaned fraternal twins who struggle to earn the trust of their people while searching for their biological family. Think Lord of The rings meets Black Panther meets Love, Death, and Robots.

Sheila D. Boyd

Sabrina M, when you finish your 'Galaxy Quest' sequel and if you want more eyes on it than your friends', check out OfficialStuntList.com.

Craig D Griffiths

I have had a wonderful variation to a screenplay I wrote over a year ago. So I am eagerly working on that.

I am also making notes for a new episode I will record tomorrow.

Fiona Linton-Brohamer

Hi Sam,

I have two completed TV pilots (dramas) that are awaiting coverage (Monday), then I am submitting to two different producers.

Kiril Maksimoski

Nothing....gonna have me a vacation, then another one...sometime August, gonna visit a neighboring country Film Fest, first to have a good time, then maybe source some interest on my newest feature spec...

Maurice Vaughan

Hope you get great coverage, Fiona!

Sam Sokolow

So awesome to read all of these great updates and projects and creative inspirations. Thanks, everyone!!

Sam M Smith

I finished the rewrite process for a sci-fi action/thriller about a bestially augmented ex-soldier detective who must solve the murders of her old military squad in an eco-paradise. Now I’m working on a FBI investigating cryptids tv series, as yet untitled.

Phillip E. Hardy, "The Real Deal"

I just finished the first draft of a feature script, and I'm awaiting the director's notes. I'm also about to start a screenplay adaptation of a Stephen Leather novel (The Chinaman), the source material for the hit film The Foreigner. Last night, I worked on editing a 300-word synopsis for Purgatory Station, which is currently in the casting phase of pre-production.

Maurice Vaughan

Sounds like exciting projects, Sam M Smith! I saw "The Foreigner," Phillip. Awesome movie. Jackie Chan was terrific! Congrats on getting the job!

Phillip E. Hardy, "The Real Deal"

Maurice: I haven't seen The Foreigner but it's a great premise. For this project, I'm going to have a wide creative berth to change much of the author's original storyline. It was originally going to be a script rewrite gig but the producer and I decided to do a new adaptation.

Robert Russo

Working on a prequel "Incarnate: Quantum War" which is the backstory to the already completed script "Incarnate" about a reincarnating soldier fighting across the greatest events of human history. Very cool character to write.

Bop Shipman

First this, enjoying the south Florida sun in July (means staying inside with the AC). Then loglines for Sons of Lilith' and writing and rewriting and rewrite 'The Flower'. In other words not much what's happening with you.

Maurice Vaughan

Oh, that's cool, Phillip (wide creative berth to change much of the author's original storyline). Please keep us posted. Same for everyone!

Maurice Vaughan

That sounds like an epic project, Robert!

What genres are your scripts, Bop?

Jerry Robbins

I'm currently writing a drama called TWO WEEKS IN FALMOUTH. It's my homage to the great summer theaters I grew up with - when big stars would play small barn-like theaters and large tent theaters from June through September. My story takes place in 1967. "An aging, legendary film star returns to his roots to face his demons and one last hurrah at a summer theater on Cape Cod."

Doug Nelson

So far, the computer is ahead - I'm thinking of going thermo-nucellar and replacing the entire operating system.

Bop Shipman

Sons of Lilith is a TV series Drama/Comedy and The Flower sci/fi movie

Evelyn Von Warnitz

Currently writing on my feature Scientific Fantasy Drama AN AMAZING LIFE. Theme view at climate change.

Matthew Parvin

I'm working on a drama set in northern Michigan. It's inspired by the Somerton Man mystery from Australia.

Bill Taub

The Dog Days Of Summer Are HERE! Things are gearing up for fall. All virtual! All the time! Try either, neither or both. https://vid.us/d1835e Let's talk.

Maurice Vaughan

I wrote a script that was set in Michigan, Matthew. Ann Arbor.

Norman Welthagen

Currently working on a new Spec set in Eastern Europe around sex trafficing. The story explores "Courage and Fear". Specifically, Where fear is present, wisdom cannot be!

Norman Welthagen

Sabrina Miller I loved Galazy Quest!

Ryan Poirier

Little delayed response but still working on it - Writing and drawing my 8th graphic novel - Farm Freaks! It's the 4th book in a seven part series about a lost journal detailing the wild events that took place during a week on a farm of misfits. Lead by Curdled the Cow, a group of (anthropomorphic) animals are constantly being moved from farm to farm due to their crazy antics. They may have met their match when sent to a drab and regime farm in Melancholy Meadows, run by a no-nonsense raging bull, Boris. However, the tables turn when Curdled, and his fellow Farm Freaks begin to discover that this farm is equally eccentric and full of secrets! Each book covers appears more beat-up and torn as the series progresses, the author of this journal isn't revealed until the end, adding more to the book's mystery!
