Screenwriting : What’s your favorite genres to watch and to write? by Claire V. Riley

Claire V. Riley

What’s your favorite genres to watch and to write?

I’m lucky in that I like to watch most genres, although I’d say comedy is my favorite to watch.

I’ve primarily written comedy because it’s so much fun.

I’ve decided to try different genres. I’m doing a western and a horror, and now I’m trying my hand at a thriller.

It’s more like comedy than I imagined. Thriller is setup and reveal. Comedy is setup and payoff.

I also like creating a good devious antagonist. So far it’s been fun.

Craig D Griffiths

Anything that has a lot of thinking involved. I like crime/detective style stories as they require discovery. You are positioned beside the protagonist. You learn stuff at the same time as they do.

Maurice Vaughan

My favorite genres to watch are Comedy, Thriller, and Action. My favorite genres to write are Thriller, Action, Horror, Sci-Fi, and Fantasy.

Jim Boston

Claire, comedy is my favorite genre to write. (It's also my favorite to watch...with drama a close second and Westerns in third place.)

Wendy Weising

Thriller is my favorite to watch. I’m currently working on a sci-fi thriller.

Geoff Hall

Claire V. Riley Hi Claire, one of my favourite genres to watch is J-Horror. If you haven’t, check out Kwaidan. It’s a masterpiece of storytelling.

I like to write psychologically-charged stories, in the main, genre-benders. I’ve also taken a liking to the horror genre. Of late, I rose to someone’s challenge to write a mythological story and I’m excited with where the research is taking me.

Roberta M Roy

Sci-fi realistic drama.
