Approach to gauge interest in script and/or project.

Hi,

I'm looking for ideas on how to approach an actress to gauge her interest in my project. It is something that is outside of her normal genre, but she would be very good at it.

At this point I just want to find out if she is even interested in any roles, but at the same time I would really like to spark some intrigue to get her to ask more.

What approach(es) have any of you used successfully?

I am contacting her by email, which I was told is the best way to contact her.

Thank you for your help.

First off you're approach is off about "to gauge her interest in my project." You have a script. She either likes it, a role(s), and will "attach" herself to your project, or she won't. There's no "gauge." You can email her, or go through her manager (if she has a manager). If she only has an agent then you call the agent. The agent, or the assistant, will usually ask if you have the project set up somewhere (with a studio or production company, i.e. there's financing in place) or if you can make a "deposit" which you pay out of your own pocket. If she does have a manager then call the manager not the agent.

This is a professional actor right? Therefore 1. I can already tell you that if there is money involved commensurate with the sums she usually commands, she will be interested in a role. If there is no money involved right now or in the near future, she will not be interested in reading the script at all because... why would she? 2. If she has a rep, contact only the rep. no matter what, unless you know her personally already. 3. The rep will want to know if the project is funded. 3. If it is not funded, or you are not a producer speaking already with funders such that you need her attached, you likely won't get any further. 4. Because this is a business and these are professionals and they don't have time to spend on projects which are not being produced now. If it is going ahead some time in the future, approach them at that time. Forgive me if I misunderstand your intention but the question implies to me that the project is not being produced right now. Which in turn implies that this would be an unwelcome inquiry, and one which they would remember. I don't like to mislead anyone into wasting their or anyone else's time.

I probably could have worded my initial question better. i understand this is a business. I am not trying to mislead or waste anyone's time. As far as I can find, she is not represented. Hence, why I found her email is how to get a hold of her. I actually just want to know if she is still acting or interested in acting roles. She seems to be mainly doing webcamming. For all I know, she is done with acting. No, the project is not being produced yet.

You found her email. 1) she won't respond. 2) she'll say no. 3) she'll say yes 4) she'll say maybe. Give it a try.

If you are not looking to get an LOI or a Deal Memo such as Pay or play, then I suggest you find an avenue to create a friendship - networking or find a way to email and tell her how great you think her work is. Be sincere, honest and transparent.
