I’m so happy to finally share the release of my short film with all of you. This one will always be close to my heart. I didn’t cast professional actors, but rather Afghan refugees who had fled from the Taliban. They came from different walks of life but found unity in their anger and feeling for revenge. When no one was interested in listening to them, this film turned their whispers into screams.
Since the Taliban’s return, the sale of children has increased in Afghanistan. This film depicts a girl’s wedding to a Taliban soldier. In reality, girls are not wed in coffins, but as a director who prioritized the emotional safety of her cast, using a coffin was the most elegant way to depict a brutal event. In my conversation with a former child bride, she told me her life ended on her wedding day. The coffin is a symbolic representation of that statement. But even at the last second of life, there is one thing that can save you. This film hopes to preserve that.
@Gayatri Thanks for the share, a deeply thought provoking film with great visuals cast and characters. A coffin is a great choice for her predicament cos the imagined alternative shown on screen would be more disturbing. The fear, pain and cries of young children during forced entrapment is blood curdling. We need filmmakers to bring this issue to light, we never see it on the world news nor read about it in the newspapers.
