Introduce Yourself : Screenwriter looking to connect and collaborate with other writers by Romeo Crow

Screenwriter looking to connect and collaborate with other writers

Hi! I'm a screenwriter from London (UK) at the beginning of my career. I've written one spec feature (a low budget comedy, think "the British Hangover") and want to learn, improve my craft and collaborate with people passionate and serious about what they do.

Would love to connect with other writers and any UK/London-based film professionals (especially if you're in the market for a low-budget British comedy!).

Outside of writing, I'm a musician, songwriter and music producer, an entrepreneur with a few small businesses, and, along with my wife, homeschool our two young children.

So come over and say hello - you never know from what small seeds the future grows :)

Maurice Vaughan

It's nice to meet you, Romeo Crow. "The British Hangover." You have to include that in your pitch when you pitch!

Here's the link to the Screenwriting Lounge: https://www.stage32.com/lounge/screenwriting There's a lot of screenwriting resources and advice there. You'll meet some VERY passionate screenwriters who are VERY serious about what they do. I'm a Lounge Crew member in that Lounge.

If you need any screenwriting advice or feedback, let me know.

Romeo Crow

Hey Maurice Vaughan ! Cheers for the message champ, and for the link too - I'll check it out. There's a lot going on when you first log in to the dashboard of Stage32. Think it might take me a while to get my head round it all, so it's good to have some direction :)

Thanks for the offer of advice/feedback too. I guess my first question would be; what lead to the opportunity for you to write Billy's Nightmare? I'm always interested in the "first steps" :)

Rosemond Perdue

HI Romeo, awesome to meet you here and let me know if there is anything I can do to help you navigate. We have lots of great education for screenwriting so send me a message if you want help finding webinars or such that would help you move forward :)

Romeo Crow “Hi Romeo!” Words I never thought I’d write in a Stage 32 post. I’m in Bristol, UK and not London. I don’t write comedy, as that programme wasn’t downloaded at my birth, but write gritty social dramas and genre-benders. I hope you find the help you need in the community here on Stage 32.

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Romeo Crow. Yeah, there's a lot to do on Stage 32, but you'll get used to it. Here's a blog about navigating the platform: "Navigating Stage 32 For Your Best Experience" https://www.stage32.com/blog/navigating-stage-32-for-your-best-experienc...

I wrote "Billy's Nightmare" as a spec script, then my manager at the time was planning to produce it. It hasn't been made yet, but, hey, that's the way things work in the film industry sometimes.

Julia Warren

Ciao Romeo! I am currently based in N-W London, also into writing comedy - usually vaguely anarchic mythology-based pieces, or fairy tale parodies, and absurdism/surrealism. Happy to connect up! In case it helps, there is this blog post about navigating Stage32: https://www.stage32.com/blog/navigating-stage-32-for-your-best-experienc... Happy exploring !

Romeo Crow

Hi Rosemond Perdue , thanks for the warm welcome! I appreciate the offer of help - I've been getting myself a bit better acquainted with the platform and can see, as you say, there are lots of great education assets for me to tuck into... almost too many! :)

Romeo Crow

Hey Geoff Hall, thank you for the welcome! Yes, "Hi Romeo" is possibly not a common greeting on here, or in life in general :) Funnily enough, comedy wouldn't be where I'd necessarily have placed myself - I prefer thrillers, adventure and historical epics, but for my first screenplay I wanted to go with something that would be the cheapest to make (and historical epics certainly don't fit that bill!) and a more simple story and plot, so I could better learn what I'm doing! So I choose one of my ideas which just happened to be comedy (think if John Cleese had written a British version of the Hangover, set over one night in Soho). It was a good learning experience.

Not been to Bristol yet - had planned to last weekend, funnily enough, but only got as far as friends in Bradford-on-Avon before a fever laid me low and scuppered our travel plans! But one day I'll be sure to visit :)

Thanks again for the kind welcome, I look forward to connecting with the community!

Romeo Crow

Maurice Vaughan aha! Thanks for the insight. Aye, certainly it seems a hard industry with lots of false summits. It'd be discouraging, if one didn't love it so much, right?! :)

Wendy Appelbaum

I loved the Hangover... the British Hangover sounds interesting

Romeo Crow

Ciao Julia Warren! Thanks for saying hello and the connection! And also for sharing the link to help me get started on here - most helpful!

I'd like to know more about your writing (your descriptions are rather enticing!); is there a place I should go to find out more?

(and where in NW London are you? If you don't mind sharing, of course!)

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Romeo Crow. "It'd be discouraging, if one didn't love it so much, right?!" Right. And you need a supportive community to help encourage you. A community like Stage 32.

Romeo Crow

Thanks for the positivity Wendy Appelbaum! In truth, that comparison wasn't my idea, nor intention when I wrote the script. It was only after I finished, and I showed it to someone and they said "It's like the British Hangover" and I thought - "I never thought of that... but I'll take it!".

Happy to ping the screenplay your way if you're interested in reading it? Equally, if you've enough on your plate and you'd rather not, I won't take it personally either - I know all too well that life's busy enough as it is :)

Either way, nice to meet you!

Wendy Appelbaum

That would be great - would love to read it.

Julia Warren

Romeo Crow Thanks Romeo - I'll send you a couple of links!
