"Writer's Block and ways to fix it - Craig D Griffiths"

Craig D Griffiths

Thanks for sharing this. Each person has their own method of overcoming it. But everyone will have it in some form and to some degree.

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Craig D Griffiths.

You're right. Each person has their own method of overcoming Writer's Block.

Everyone, feel free to drop your method in the comments. Thanks.

Everyone, here's an article that can help with Writer's Block: "7 Screenwriting Hacks If You’re Stuck" https://www.networkisa.org/screeenwriting_articles/view/7-screenwriting-...

Geoff Hall

Never had it…

Maurice Vaughan

You've never been stuck on a script or scene, Geoff Hall?

Jim Boston

Maurice (and Craig), whenever I get stuck on a script or stuck on a scene within a script, I do more research on what I'm trying to write about. After a Google session or two, I'm back on the road.

Eve Zelenve

Same as Geoff Hall.

The real issue for people like me is considering the script as "finished" in spite of the many flaws...

Geoff Hall

Maurice Vaughan my approach is that I’m forever refining it till it presses the right buttons or hits the right notes. Then I’m happy with it. I move on, but in the meantime, if the story fires something in my imagination that’s better, then I revise it again.

I never just work through a script to the end and then go back once it’s done. It means I always have a sense of momentum. Of course, nothing in my point of view is the finished article anyway.

Geoff Hall

Jim Boston that’s a good approach, Jim. I do the same with technical issues re weapons or say FBI criminal analysis culture.

Robert Russo

Try to do things you love and have fun. When youre stuck, often times NOT trying to figure it out lets your brain relax and the unconscious will start to work its magic while youre out having some laughs with your friends. That or do psychedelics. Youll definitely become unstuck then lol

Geoff Hall and everyone.

Data science is an interesting way of seeing and predicting things in larger datasets and the community as a whole. However the down stream discipline of Intelligence I found as far for applicable to writing.

My first book “Writing Screenplays with Intelligence” is how yo apply Intelligence Tools in the writing context.

It is a small book and an easy read. The link above is for a free copy.

If you feel generous. Give it a review on Amazon.

Thanks for sharing what you do to beat Writer's Block, Jim Boston.

Maurice Vaughan

Hi, Eve Zelenve. What do you mean by "considering the script as "finished" in spite of the many flaws"?

Maurice Vaughan

Ok, I see, Geoff Hall. You're constantly writing, so the momentum keeps you from getting stuck on scenes and scripts.

Maurice Vaughan

Thanks for sharing, Robert Russo. I do that also ("do things you love and have fun"). I was talking with Craig D Griffiths about that on his video. About stepping away from a script and not forcing it.

Maurice Vaughan

Thanks for the book, Craig D Griffiths. I'll check it out.

Geoff Hall

Maurice Vaughan that's it, Maurice. Sorry to be the odd one out!

Geoff Hall

Craig D Griffiths Hi Craig, than you so much for the free book. I'm reading it now. Thank you for your kindness.

Maurice Vaughan

It's fine, Geoff Hall. It's great that you don't get stuck on scenes and scripts.

William Schumpert

I always take a break. Figure out what motivated me, and what I’m looking for in the story. Just relax and think it through as I work on other projects.

Eve Zelenve

Hi, Maurice Vaughan. You have no idea how lucky you are if finishing is easy for you. Believe me, you don't want to know more about the endless process of fixing flaws until discovering new ones;-)

Thanks for your book, Craig D Griffiths. It's a great idea to use a relationship matrix. Some AI tools might also help to write better... or to please the machines that evaluate our scripts, based on data about previous movies: https://www.theverge.com/2019/5/28/18637135/hollywood-ai-film-decision-s...

Geoff Hall

Eve Zelenve say what?

Maurice Vaughan

That's a great method, William. Take a break, figure out what motivated you, and figure out what you're looking for in the story. Thanks for sharing.

Maurice Vaughan

Eve Zelenve Sometimes finishing a script is easy, but a lot of time it's not. Sometimes I figure out one problem in a script only to discover another.

Craig D Griffiths

Thank for the kind words about the book. I hope it helps everyone. AI and writing. I cannot see it ever playing a part. What would it replace? An executive? We don’t need them to know what is good? A writer? Since AI learns from available data, we would only ever get Marvel movies, since they get good box office.

Good topic for a video.
