Screenwriting : Writer's Room by Sash Andranikian

Writer's Room

Has anyone benefited (and how if you did) from the paid membership of the Writer's room?

Maurice Vaughan

Sash Andranikian As a Writers' Room member, I've attended live events, watched free webinars, and learned a lot in the Writers' Room Lounge. One of my scripts is being considered by a major company because I submitted it through an Open Writing Assignment in the Writers' Room (https://www.stage32.com/lounge/stage_32_success_stories/Night-Crier-Adva...).

Robert Russo

Maurice do you work for Stage32?

Maurice Vaughan

I'm a Lounge Crew member in the Screenwriting Lounge, Robert Russo. A Lounge Crew member is more of a volunteer than a worker. A Lounge Crew member is someone who greets people who join Stage 32, keeps conversations going in the Lounges, and points members in the right direction (when they have questions, when they need resources, etc.).

Martin Reese

I'm a paid member and I have benefited. I have become a better writer through networking in the group, participating in the pitch sessions, gained insight by attending the Executive Hour where I had opportunities to ask questions. Members have been tremendously helpful. I've also submitted scripts for the Open Writing Assignments (OWAs). You're not forced to join by any means, but I have not regretted being a member.

Daniel Duane

I just submitted to my first OWA. How does it work? Is it worth it?

Dan Guardino

I think it would be benificial for newer screenwriters.

Dan MaxXx

Just curious if any members been hired/paid money by companies soliciting writers? Maurice Vaughan

Maurice Vaughan

I'm not sure, Dan MaxXx. I'll let you know when the company buys my script "Night Crier." :) https://www.stage32.com/lounge/stage_32_success_stories/Night-Crier-Adva...

Dan M - since when?

Sabrina Miller

I still haven't heard anything back about an OWA I submitted to back in August. At this point, I'm guessing my script didn't make it past the internal vetting process. Either that or Stage 32 staff got overwhelmed by the number of submissions and they're still sorting through them? Not sure. But it's all good. Plenty of opportunities in the future.

Maurice Vaughan

That's a great attitude to have, Sabrina Miller ("But it's all good. Plenty of opportunities in the future"). I'm sure you'll get more opportunities.

Sabrina Miller

Thanks Maurice.

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Sabrina Miller.

Sash Andranikian. You might contact the people who run the Writers' Room because sometimes they off 30 day trials. It really depends on what one hopes to gain. I newer screenwriter might gain some knowledge and meet other people in the writers’ room. Selling a screenplay on the Open Writing Assignment or getting hired is a longshot but everything in this business is a longshot. Personally I don’t pay for anything but I can see why some people do.

Everything in life is horses for courses. When I joined writers room I did so cos I’d time to commit in person several hours a week live, then my work load increased. However did not cancel cos there are seminars and links that do not require live contact. I do not as yet have a voice in room but done plenty behind scenes.
