Good morning Stage 32 Writer's Room members! I've just the beginnings of a framework that would be a small group of writers exploring their pre-script, top of the list pilot or feature subjects/stories. Something like a half dozen people sharing their pitch/log line or simply a brief outline of the story. Particularly important would be to include WHY this story is important to you and WHY you should write it. Yes, we have awesome opportunities to do this via so many cool Stage 32 opportunities and channels. Still, I'm thinking this could be the ground floor step for a small group of us, via this Lounge.
Let me know if you're interested and (slightly in jest) if you understand what I'm trying to convey here!
Last, cannot overemphasize the awesomeness of Stage 32/Writer's Room! A year ago, even three months ago, I knew sooo much less than I do now! And the learning experiences just keep on 'a comin.
Happy Sunday from Los Angeles!

That's an interesting idea, Catherine Cole. So, like a prep group to make sure everyone's stories are solid before they start on the scripts?

Hey, Catherine Cole - it's not often I see a familiar face here! I've started a filmmakers support group via Zoom if you'd like to sit in with us - nothing structured, just a place to talk shop. Our next meeting is Saturday 11/26. Just give me a holler if you're interested.

Hi Maurice, yes a prep group of sorts that share their set of eyes and view on your original idea. Again, the original idea can be a log line, pitch of brief summary. I'll post mine in my next communication.

Here's my offering. Tentative title 'Caroline, No.' Not sure if this will be a Drama Feature or Limited Series.... Share your opinions, feedback, etc.. Then share yours! Thanks in advance!
PITCH:
1966 in Southern California. Every surf and sun worshipping teenager here lives for summer and the beach. Japanese teen beauty Caroline, studious yet surf crazy, meets popular, blonde surfer boy- eighteen year old Jeff. Surfing lessons, along with shared loves and hurts hurtle friendship to exquisite young love. Their tender romance triggers a bitter, bigoted clash of parental combat. Innocent young love is wrenched into tragic, fanatical shame and disgrace. When Caroline discovers she is pregnant, bigotry spawns a cultural clash of parental shame and disgrace.
INSPIRATION:
I’m a Southern California ‘baby boomer’ who worshipped the beach, surfing and cute surfers. One of my dear girls friends was Japanese. She was as equal a ‘surfer girl’ as my blonde haired, green eyed self. . Her first romance with a cute (white) surfer boy crashed into a bigoted battle between their parents from which she never recovered.
COMPS:
‘Beach Blanket Bingo’ meets ‘Romeo and Juliet’

Incredible pitch, Catherine Cole! I could visualize the story as I read the pitch. :D I think a prep group is a great idea.
