Fellowship season is coming for television writers! Now is the time to prepare your samples, essays, resume, and application so that you’re ready when the submission windows open very soon!
These writing fellowships (hosted by NBC, Paramount, ABC-Disney, WB, and others) are one of the best ways for you to break into a television writers’ room and launch your episodic career.
In this exclusive Stage 32 webinar, you’ll go behind the scenes and find out how to get into one of these elite TV writing fellowships directly from the Vice President and Head of Warner Bros. Television Workshop, Rebecca Windsor.
In addition to her work with the WBTV Workshop, Rebecca launched the Warner Bros. digital brand Stage 13, where she oversaw SPECIAL, which premiered on Netflix and garnered four Emmy Nominations.
Previously, she was the Creative Producing Initiative Manager of the Sundance Institute’s Feature Film Program. She was pivotal in coordinating the Screenwriters and Directors Labs, Episodic Story Lab, and the Creative Producing Lab and Summit.

This is such an UNBELIEVABLY COOL webinar. For those who don't know, it's hosted by the Head of a major TV fellowship, Rebecca Windsor. I've seen tons of webinars that talk about fellowships. If they have people from the program, they get to talk for MAYBE 5min each. I've never seen one where you get to dive in like this before and really see what it takes to stand out and what these programmers are looking for

Do you have examples of spec scripts/original submissions that made it into the program? If not, what is a good resource to see where the bar is?

Do specs have to work as a typical episode of the show? Is it okay to break formula if you've gotten the characters/dynamics/themes down?

Should you strive to write an evergreen spec or no?

Regarding programs that ask for two original scripts: should we try to diverse their formats? Example: Ensemble stories and single lead stories

Rebecca, if you have time, I thought of a question after the webinar was over. Can you describe what the fellowship program is like for the folks who are lucky enough to get in? Thanks!

We meet one night a week, starting with a series of guest speakers covering topics on everything from pitching to producing your episode on set to how to interview, etc. We also run a simulated writers room for several weeks taking writers through all the development steps from pitching their episode idea through revising their second draft of the script.
