Introduce Yourself : Darn it! I'm too late! by Doug Kayne

Doug Kayne

Darn it! I'm too late!

I was afraid this was going to happen! I was too busy this weekend, and didn't get a chance to create an entry for the Introduce Yourself Weekend!

Now I'm not going to be able to tell people that I'm an award-winning improvisational comedian, currently performing with the improvised sketch comedy group THOSE FOUR MISIFTS (www.ThoseFourMisfits.com). In fact, yesterday we performed at the OrcCon gaming convention, and today I was filiming and editing a sketch I wrote to go up on our YouTube page.

And I'm not going to be able to tell people that I've written a made-for-TV movie (which aired in 2002). Or that I'm currently writing a sci-fi comedy series that I'd love to get greenlit! It's funny. Honest!

I'm also not going to be able to tell anyone on here that I've been in many stage productions, starring as the Lion in "Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz", Captain Hook in "Peter Pan and Wendy", and Officer Klein in "Arsenic and Old Lace", just to name a few. I also won't be able to mention that I've created and starred in web series and short films.

And, I won't be able to tell anyone here that I'd love to network and collaborate with anyone who is cool to work with. I just want to work with amazing creative people!

But, unfortunately, I submitted this way too late.

Wait...It's still Sunday? You mean, it's not late?

Never mind.

Sandra Ray

Nope, sorry, Doug! Too late!! You can't tell people that...

...You have written a made-for-TV movie.

...You are an award-winning improvisational comedian. Currently performing with the improvised sketch comedy group THOSE FOUR MISFITS. (www.ThoseFourMisfits.com).

You have been in many stage productions and have created and starred in web series and short films.

AND

I can't tell you that...

... I love to network and collaborate with anyone who is cool to work with. I just want to work with amazing creative people!

Oh, wait! I just did! Hahaha! ; )

Geoff Hall

Doug Kayne There’s no such thing as “too late” in this business! Haha!

Maurice Vaughan

Even if you made a post today, you wouldn't be late, Doug Kayne. Introduce Yourself Weekend is Friday to Monday. How was the performance?

Doug Kayne

It was a good show, Maurice Vaughan! People really responded well to our material (our Quantum Leap and Dungeons and Dragons sketches were probably the highlights.). Thanks!

Doug Kayne

You know, Sandra Ray...maybe I should just have you do my posts. You do a much better job than I do!

Doug Kayne

That's true, Geoff Hall. And I did make it in JUST under the deadline.

Barry Hollywood

Hey, Doug Kayne Dungeons and Dragons sketches? Now I'm intrigued. :)

Doug Kayne

Glad I piqued your interest, Barry Hollywood! We do improvised sketch comedy, where we make the sketches up as we go along, around a basic framework. This sketch in particular involved a Dungeons and Dragons game (I was playing DM, with the other two cast members being the players). In this particular sketch, we reached out for audience suggestions throughout the scene for various objects (akin to an improv game, Supply the Word). Obviously, relationships were key (characters had romantic relationships in RP that were different than those in RL, for example). The audience really resonated with that sketch and our Quantum Leap sketch.

Barry Hollywood

Ah, excellent, Doug Kayne. Contrasting romantic relationships in RP vs. RL sounds hilarious. :) What was the Quantum Leap sketch about?

Sam Sokolow

Awesome post, Doug! It’s terrific to meet you here! Welcome to the community!

GiGi Raines

Hey Doug! You’ve got such a great niche audience for sketches! Sure to soar!

Doug Kayne

Barry Hollywood Our Quantum Leap sketch is based on the TV show (more the Scott Bakula/Dean Stockwell version). We get a famous person and an activity from the audience (in this case, Vladimir Putin and doing the dishes), and our cast member (who can't hear the suggestions) is Sam, leaping into Putin's body. With the help of the other cast members (I'm Al), he has to figure out who he is and what he's supposed to be doing.

Doug Kayne

Thank you, Sam Sokolow

Doug Kayne

Thank you, GiGi! I'm hoping our audience will grow even more in 2023, too!

Doug Kayne

Thank you, Michael!

Maurice Vaughan

Will the performance be online, Doug Kayne?

Rutger Oosterhoff 2

Yes, that's a shame you are too late... or aren't you? I'm totally confused.

Sandra Ray

Haha@ Rutger! Sometimes confusion is bliss! :)

Sydney S

Welcome to the community Doug :-) Happy to have you here!

Barry Hollywood

Doug Kayne The only Quantum Leap I'm familiar with :) . Sounds like great fun!

Doug Kayne

Unfortunately, Maurice Vaughan, we forgot to bring a camera to record it. BUT...starting this week, we will be starting up our Misfit Bits on our YouTube page, https://www.youtube.com/@thosefourmisfits6017. A new one every week (plus we have 101 sketches online, and one sketch from our live shows).

Doug Kayne

I believe the answer, Rutger Oosterhoff 2, is "Yes".

Doug Kayne

Thank you, Sydney S!

Doug Kayne

Barry Hollywood The sequel show is a fun one. I recommend giving it a shot. It actually does a few things better than the original show (and I LOVED the original Quantum Leap.)

Doug Kayne

Pick away, B A Mason! Here to help.

Maurice Vaughan

No problem, Doug Kayne. I just subscribed to the channel.

Doug Kayne

Thanks, Maurice!

William Schumpert

There’s always next week. FYI the Cowardly Lion was always my favorite character.

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Doug Kayne.

Doug Kayne

William: I very much enjoyed playing the Lion. So much so I played him in three different productions of "Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz" (different casts, except for Scarecrow) at two different theaters. Lost a lot of water weight in that suit (not as much as Bert Lahr did, though).
