Voice Acting and Losing your Voice

So as I near the close of finishing a demo reel for a character I’ve created, I ended up with a sinus infection that has caused my voice to become scratchy or gravelly (not in a good way). What steps do you all take while nursing a voice back to health? Tips appreciated!

Richard "RB" Botto

Hot tea and honey on repeat and plenty of rest. Plenty of hydration in between. No unnecessary talking at all.

Sam Sokolow

RB nailed it. There is a tea called “cold care” and one called “throat coat” that I know many singers use.

Amanda Toney

Not sure but maybe a Neti Pot might help ease some of the sinus infection symptoms?

Barry Culver

Thanks to all of these. I’ve been doing tea and I will make sure to rest my voice. I’ll take this time to write more then! I’ll check out the other teas and maybe getting a Neti Pot. I got some medication today for the sinus infection too! Thank you again everyone ❤️

Feel better and keep us posted on how your voice comes around for your demo reel!

Barry Culver, Ricola makes "Throat Care" drops that are especially nice when you have a scratchy throat and gravelly voice. There's an oral anesthetic at the center of the drops that helps to numb and soothe your throat. I use them to quickly recover from head colds or even after attending concerts and events that strip my voice. Sometimes they're marketed as, "Dual Action" drops.

I always like hot water and honey to help in these scenarios.

Ricola and Grether’s on my list. Thank you for the continued tips and support! ❤️
