Question about making an independent film

I have never had the thought of making my own films but the one I've just finished I think I want to shoot myself. Is this a common progression and if you have done it, can you tell me your experiences... thanks.

Kiril Maksimoski

It's most natural way to go...100% do it

Frank Van Der Meijden

Hi Bop,

Great, that's the way to go.

Do you have any ideas what you'ld like to achieve? Short? Feature?

My best advice is: try to finish any project, how big or small it is.

When I was wrestling with this same question an Academy Aware winning producer gave me this advice… “make your movie and get it done any way that you can - the industry will be more impressed that can make a movie than with the movie itself and it’ll open up a million opportunities.” He was right. I also recommend this upcoming Stage 32 webinar on how to make a movie on a right schedule and budget - Stacia has great insight to share: https://www.stage32.com/webinars/So-You-Need-To-Make-A-Movie-In-15-Days-...

I think I will go for it... worse thing that can happen is I will like it and need to do it more. Thank you all. Sam I will take the course as well.

Hi Bop, most people will tell you to not even try. That it’s impossible to get your project made especially if you are attaching yourself as the director. I would say don’t listen to them because if you dream it you can create it… if you believe you can!

Stephanie Munch

I love the question and I love the answers so far - go for it !
