Introduce Yourself : Here to learn by Cheri Krueger

Here to learn

Hello fellow word wranglers. I am a novelist with my first traditionally published book hitting the shelves October 5. This book is cinematic in my head and I'm attempting to transfer those images to screenplay form. I'm using the free version of Celtx and having fun.

Married with two grown sons and a grandson, I 'retired' to the San Joaquin Valley and spend most of my day writing fiction. When not writing, I can be found reading, painting, traveling and/or indulging my craft beer obsession.  Looking forward to making new friends.

Cheri Krueger Congratulations on your first book releasing in October! I've never used Celtx but I've heard other screenwriters who are happy with it. The industry standard is Final Draft. It's not cheap but it's a one-time fee. Glad you're with us. We also have an author and playwriting lounge that you can post about your publishing journey here: https://www.stage32.com/lounge/playwriting. There's also a blog post on how best to navigate Stage 32 here: www.stage32.com/blog/navigating-stage-32-for-your-best-experience-3095 All the best to you, Cheri. Looking forward to hearing more about your journey. Let us know what your book is about!

Well…since you asked here is my blurb for ‘The Abduction of Adrienne Berg’:

Restless housewife Adrienne meets charismatic pilot Gabriel and feels an instant primal attraction. When Gabriel abducts her and steals millions from her embezzling husband, she should be afraid, but street-survivor Adrienne thrills to the rush. Feeling betrayed by her husband's secrets, she turns from hostage to accomplice.

Gabriel's firm commitment to another woman is simply one more obstacle for Adrienne to overcome.

In a chaotic hunt from the suburbs of San Francisco across the hostile badlands of Mexico, their pursuers find more questions than answers, people die, and the lines between the good guys and the bad guys blur. Adrienne is determined to reach the paradise Gabriel has promised, and she'll do whatever it takes to get her happy ending.

I used Celtx way back, Cheri Krueger. I don't remember how it was back then, but I'm guessing it's better now. I had some scripts saved on Celtx. If only I could get those scripts back now, I'd rewrite them, especially one called "Closed Room."

Welcome to Stage32, Cheri Krueger!. And congrats on your upcoming publication date. Very exciting.

Be sure to read some articles on how to translate your novel to the big screen. The writing canvas is much smaller and tighter. Despite its cinematic tone you'll need to distill the essence of the story and remove some of the subplots in order to meet the time requirements. Rarely can a novel be copied scene for scene for the big screen. Of course, if the story is sweeping and/or epic you could cover more ground with a limited episodic series. Many options. So exited for you!

GiGi Raines

Very cool! Have you written screenplays before?

Cheri Krueger

Hi Gigi. No, this is my first crack at it. I have a couple of craft books and a screenplay from ‘The Green Mile’ that I have studied (Who better to learn from than Stephen King and Frank Darabont?) but I just downloaded the Celtx software this week. I’m on page 51 of my adaptation and having a blast!
