Crowdfunding Tips & Tricks

Hello!

Looking into starting my second crowdfunding project.

Been reading some books, blog posts, and watching some videos on the topic.

I'm looking into trying my hand at Seed & Spark this time around and have been making a campaign draft.

Since joining this community I've been wanting to ask: if you've done crowdfunding, what was that experience like for you and what would you recommend are the best ways to go about it?

Cheers!

Ashley Renee Smith

Hi Phillip Chavez, you should check out Stage 32 CEO RB's book- Crowdsourcing For Filmmakers: Indie Film & the Power of the Crowd. There is a ton of advice in there from interviewing hundreds of filmmakers on crowdsourcing and crowdfunding their projects: https://www.amazon.com/Crowdsourcing-Filmmakers-American-Market-Presents...

Hello Ashley Renee Smith, thank you for the comment and link. I have his book and I think it's a great resource!

I did Seed & Spark twice. Some notes:

- It's a smaller pond so you might get better visibility

- They champion diversity, that's their focus

- You can reach out to existing members to pitch your project. this isn't an official thing but I did it and it worked.

- Their platform is a bit more flaky (tech-wise) than e.g. Kickstarter.

All in all not much different from other platforms otherwise, I didn't see any major advantage beyond the access to their members via DMs.

Hi Timo Puolitaipale thank you for that insight regarding your use of Seed&Spark! I appreciate you mentioning some points to look out for.

The point that stood out to me is the DM option. I had never thought of this when going into this process.

Sending a message and hearing directly from others, especially like-minded individuals, could be a groundbreaking experience.

Phillip Chavez Hi Phillip, I’ve no experience in crowdfunding, but our fearless leader, RB has written a great book on Crowdsourcing.

I am also considering a crowdfunding campaign for an animated project I’m working on, for a proof of concept.

You mentioned this will be your second campaign and I wondered what you learnt from the first campaign to take into the second one?
