Hi, I set out to build a versatile portfolio, met Marta who helped me produce and acted in all the shorts. It was a fantastic experience and I would like some feedback on the first one we just finished.
I’ve been writing full-length scripts for years, the goal was to switch from writing to directing, and we just jumped into it. We kept everything to a bare minimum and just ran with the scripts.
I wrote four scripts with loose connections to each other:
1. Helga and The Reversal – an experimental short about a silly girl who summons Neptun. It’s a mix of a scene and a trailer. You can watch it at the link below.
2. WGA related. A longer scene about a vulgar producer who berates a timid writer. 7 pages, currently being edited.
3. WGA related but then I thought to film the reverse. A short thriller about a psychotic writer who threatens an honest producer. 10 pages, filmed and waiting.
4. Sequel to the first one, we haven’t shot it yet. Neptun appears and he’s a chill dude, Helga and him have a fun time hanging out and eating fishsticks. We’re still looking for the right actor for Neptun. 7 pages.
Feedback is appreciated, I’m aware this one is surreal, the next two short films are more genre-oriented. The goal is to use them as a portfolio to shoot one of my feature scripts.

Thanks.

Hello Dor Sinai, thanks for sharing and wow! What a lovely task you’ve given to yourself. Very inspiring. I love the tone of the trailer, the music, the actress is beautiful and so bubbly. I would say there’s something a bit clunky about the rhythm of the edit, and maybe the Neptune bit is not very clear (to me at least, apologies). I wanted to see more of the summoning action and felt too short. Hope this help! Keep it up and thanks again for sharing so bravely

I like "Helga and The Reversal," Dor Sinai. It's a fun experimental short. You and Marta did an outstanding job, and I think it's great you decided to direct your own shorts to build up your portfolio! I'm looking forward to seeing your other short films!
