Maurice Vaughan

I'm really looking forward to Lesley's webcast, Amanda Toney!

Bradley Scott

I joined last month and really enjoyed last week's webinar with the guy who wrote TOY STORY, he was knowledgeable and generous with his time. Looking forward to having Lesley on the Zoom on Wednesday. All Quiet on the Western Front was one of my favorite books and I loved the movie. Wild that we get to learn from someone who was up for an Oscar last year talk through her script. Excited for this.

Maurice Vaughan

Welcome to the Writers' Room, Bradley Scott!

Amanda Toney

@EmilyJ worked with Lesley yesterday to get set for the Zoom today and we are so excited to have her break down ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT. Hope to see everyone today at 4pm PT! Remember, we're giving away a free month to new members, info in my original post!

Ewan Dunbar

The story of how she made All Quiet on the Western Front happen is amazing in itself! Hugely inspiring woman.

Michael Elliott

I hated the ending. It was a huge letdown,

Jenean McBrearty

Michael Elliot ... what was the 3rd Act problem, in your opinion? Having seen the original, I'm not going to see the remake. Isn't there anything original ever produced?

Michael Elliott

In the original (made in 1930) and in a TV remake (the 70s). In the end, when the Armistice is declared and just minutes away, Paul carries Kat. who is wounded, on his back making their way to the rear. A lone shot rings out, strikes Kat who slowly dies without Paul being immediately aware. When he finds that Kat has died needlessly, it's an exclamation point on the war's gross futility. In the latest version, Paul and his companion are chased by a rifle-totting, semi-retarded child who kills Paul's companion for stealing a goose from a farm. Most anti-climatic thing I've ever seen

Jenean McBrearty

That's it? Is the message supposed to be that, war-or-no-war, don't steal someone else's goose? When it's your time to die, it's your time and escaping war death doesn't guarantee you'll live through France? Geez, thanks for the warning. Guess the war wasn't important to Paterson.
