Anything Goes : Beware of scammers! by Slava Babenkov

Beware of scammers!

Hi Dear colleagues!

I just want you to be aware of scammers who use the names of some renowned and famous producers and offer you some "services". One guy introduced himself as Garreth Basch (who originally has worked with Taika Waititi) and said that he could look through my projects and had a fee of $3000. I honestly believe that some cool producers can hang out on Stage32 forums, but such scammers have one thing in common - their approach and the message they send to you. I'll attach some screens. Look at their "?." and spaces between dots. They are the same. Just be careful!

How can we stop this from happening? To know who is actually legit and not legit. Who do we contact?

Shanell Mitchell I wrote a message to the administration in the person of Ms. Karen "Kay" Ross and she said that in any suspicious case, we should write to COMMUNITY@stage32.com and they will investigate it. But it is just scammers who have something in common, but I believe that there are others out there.

I was contacted by some posing as Kathryn Bigelow. Asked for basically the same thing. I reported them to Stage 32 and they promptly kicked them out.

Thanks for warning everyone, Slava Babenkov.

If anyone gets contacted by a scammer, email Stage 32 at support@stage32.com. Send Stage 32 a screenshot of the scammer's message and their profile link.

You can also email support@stage32.com if you think someone is a scammer, Shanell Mitchell.

Maybe it's time to make "Split2".

Let me come up with a logline.

It's not scammy for someone to ask for a retainer fee for producing services. Thats only if you are serious about making a movie. Prepay ppl for their advice & contacts.

Now if you're just writing spec screenplays for sale and dont want to get your hands dirty and a stranger answers your prayers they can help you sell a script for life-changing money, yeah that's a scammer

Slava Babenkov

Dan MaxXx I'm talking just about this case, when people pretend to be other people. Fake accounts. But the same messages and even the same punctuation.
