Screenwriting : Here's a scene from my first feature-length screenplay, 2013's PARTY OF 50. by Bill Brock

Bill Brock

Here's a scene from my first feature-length screenplay, 2013's PARTY OF 50.

I recall wearing four hats for this one-- Director, Writer, Actor, and Co-Producer. I haven't watched this in years. Just discovered this scene recently in a file. Would love to hear from other members who have traveled a similar route. Have you ever coupled your screenwriting with other aspects of film production? If so, were you happy with your additional contributions? Please share your thoughts and experiences. Writing AND directing was a blast. Not only does one own the words on the page, one also owns the vision viewed through the lens. Having a great cinematographer also helps! ; )

Hey, Bill Brock. I'm a Stage 32 Lounge Moderator. Are you looking for feedback on your scene? If so, it can go in the Screenwriting Lounge. If not, you can post your scene in the Your Stage Lounge because it’s promotion. Promotion can go in the Your Stage Lounge (www.stage32.com/lounge/promotion) and on Your Wall.

You can, however, post your promotion in one of the other Lounges if your post starts a conversation that’s helpful and educational to the community, like you've been doing with the other posts you've put in the Screenwriting Lounge.

Hi Bill Brock, I like your use of over the shoulder, over the shoulder shot.

Bill Brock

Maurice Vaughan Good point, Maurice. Allow me to make a few amendments. ; )

Bill Brock

Paul Rivers Agreed, Paul. My cinematographer and I worked well together. I've known him for years. Back when I was an actor, I met him at an audition, and yes, he was the man working the camera. We also did plenty of 48-Hour Film Projects together.

Funny scene, Bill Brock. I'd watch a show about these three guys getting into trouble and crazy situations. Was it hard to wear four hats?

Ty Strange

"I own a painting." Fav line from the scene. Good stuff, Bill Brock!

Robin Gregory

Three guys walk into a coffee shop... Ha! Well done, Brock!

I have loved your humor for a long time Bill!!! I can't imagine wearing all the hats! But my son did a one man comedy skit show out of college. He even filmed himself as the actor performing his script. Do you have anything on You Tube?

Asmaa Jamil

Congrats and great work.

Effie Trihas

Great job! I coupled my acting with screenwriting and directing a couple times in the past. Just some fun shorts, but I really enjoyed it and it gave me a fresh look on the art of movie making. I also found out that I really liked the writing and directing part more than the acting. So now I'm just writing full-time.

This is awesome! Thanks for sharing!

Deborah Jennings Thanks, Deb! That's great news about your son! Wow! What an incredible challenge-- A one-man show! As a proud parent, that must've been a blast to witness! BRAVO, DEB'S KID!!! As a stage actor, the closest I came to a one-man show was a two-person show. It was called MISERY. You may have heard of the movie? We performed the stage play. I portrayed Paul Sheldon (James Caan in the film).

You're in luck! My short film, "I'LL HAVE ANOTHER..." (2016), is posted on YouTube. All you must do is click below. Enjoy the show!
