Hi Stage 32 Community and Creatives!
My name is Jess Kardos. I'm a TV writer based in Los Angeles. I've worked as an assistant on shows like USA's "Covert Affairs" and Disney's "Bunk'd" and as a staffed writer on the CW's "Supergirl" and "The Winchesters."
I’ve tracked Stage 32’s meteoric rise for years and am so grateful to have recently been pulled into its orbit. I come to you all not only as a fellow writer (who can empathize with that blank-page-anxiety) but as a script consultant and hype gal. I know what it’s like to be on both ends of the notes process and while giving isn’t always easy, receiving notes isn’t the funnest either. But I am a true believer in the process and know that notes are given in an effort to improve a piece, not tear it down. So if you find yourself looking for that outside read or banging your head against a wall because you don’t know where to turn next, please reach out. Let’s tell great stories together!
Xoxo
Jess

Welcome to the community, Jess Kardos. Congratulations on all of your success!!! I've heard of "The Winchesters." If I ever get caught up with "Supernatural," I'll check it out.

Maurice Vaughan you’re in luck! It’s a prequel show so no prior knowledge necessary (though finding those Easter eggs is always a good time)!

Welcome to Stage32, Jess! You bring an impressive resume to the table. I absolutely loved Covert Affairs. Definitely miss Annie and Auggie.
What kept you busy during the strike?

Jess Kardos Hi Jess, welcome to the community! It’s great to have you here. What advice would you give to an optioned screenwriter/director when it comes to contract negotiations?

That's great, Jess Kardos, because "Supernatural" is a LONG show. I actually can't remember which episode I stopped on, so I'd have to start over. Are you watching any shows right now?

Ty Strange I miss Annie and Auggie!!! I was a showrunner’s assistant on CA and it was the first time I had ever worked on a television show. Being in that writers room was the first time I felt like I “belonged” in Hollywood. I am eternally grateful to that entire team!
During the strike I read, watched, and wrote (for myself!) as much as I could — anything to refill the creative coffers!

Geoff Hall while I may be able to write the shit out of a law procedural I know nothing about contracts and therefore can’t give much in the way of advice. I’d get a lawyer to look over the contract and go from there.

Maurice Vaughan with it being shpooky season my husband and I do a lot of shlock horror throughout the month. We recently watched “It’s Alive” (1974) and if batshit, horror, sci-fi is your thing, it’s a big recommend.
In the TV world we’re about 3/4ths of the way through “Fall of the House of Usher” and are loving it! We’re obsessed with Mike Flanagan, patron saint of horror-family-dramas.
What are you watching?

I'm not sure if I've heard of “It’s Alive," Jess Kardos. I might watch it this month. “Fall of the House of Usher” is on my TV watchlist. I've been watching Horror movies, and I'm almost done with "The Office" (the American version).

Maurice Vaughan “Its Alive” isn’t super well known but it (and all its sequels!) are a ridiculously fun ride (who doesn’t love following a mutant baby on a killing spree!?!).
I owe my husband a lot of credit here — when we first started dating he took my education in horror very seriously and now, ten years later, it’s the genre I’ve carved my career from!
For anyone looking for eyes on their newest horror, sci-fi, or hour long drama/screenplay/pitch find me on Stage 32’s service roster!

My old editor used to send me a picture of a cute guinea pig with every set of notes, to sweeten the pill. What ever works. These days I use chocolate, cider or a few days breath before tackling them. Nice to meet you, Jess.

Hi Jess, we’ve probably crossed paths on some lot somewhere without even knowing it.

So happy to meet you! Like you, I enjoy creating and writing about assertive female characters, and my rom-com feature script "Stand Tall!" features one of them... a "semi-superheroine" named Colleen Cossitt. Her superpower is that because of a lab accident, this Vegas casino waitress is now more than 16 feet tall. But rather than fight crime or save the world, Colleen is a Sin City showroom headliner who simply wants to be loved... and is, by the scientist whose mishap made her three times bigger. (As she tells him, "Giants need love, too.") best wishes!

Jess Kardos Hi Jess, thanks for your reply. I was thinking more about from the writer’s point of view. What are the red flags for you?
