Hi everyone. I’m new to all of this and would love to get advice from professionals in the industry.
My question is, are there any scenarios where I can maintain some creative control over my story and select some of the music if I sell my life rights?
Thanks so much!

Thanks for the advice Jeff. An entertainment attorney shared similar advice. I'm going to focus more on finding trustworthy individuals/companies to pitch to.

I have been told, with the music aspect, that if you are financing the project yourself, you can have a say in the music if you get permission to use it. But if you sell it, they hire a music coordinator and you may be able to negotiate some sort of control in your contract.

Thanks Tasha. I actually did consider financing a low-budget project myself so that I could select the music, but I don't think the project would turn that well due to my inexperience. Hopefully, I can find someone who will at least consider my wishes. Music is a huge part of my story/identity.

I feel the same. I have a project, and there were certain scenes. I envisioned a certain song but learned that I should not do that, and the studio that produces it would probably make those decisions.

Yes, definitely will copyright once the pilot rewrites are complete. I’m looking into getting an agent as well. Thanks!
