How to work with Netflix ?

Hi

I would like to know how I can get my project onto Netflix ? I did some research but learned that Netflix only accepts projects from producers who already have relationships either with an agent or another Producer already working for Netflix ? Okay now I don't know how to proceed ?

Netflix seems to me to be one of the best means of visibility, not strictly speaking for the series that I am producing, but to give visibility to actors of several nationalities playing in this series.

My series is first in pre-production, the casting having already been done, we are only one step away from filming. It is a series which will be filmed in Burkina Faso and Angola, but will involve major African, French, Portuguese, Spanish and English actors of which I refrain from mentioning their names.

So I come back to my question, if you have suggestions or solutions to offer me on how to present my project to Netflix, I am interested.

THANKS

If your project does well in some festivals you might be able to get some access that way.

The project in question is still in the pre-production phase so do I have to wait for it before presenting it at festivals in order to hope to present my project to Netflix ?

If a project does well in festivals it'll attract industry attention, including Netflix. Nobody in the industry wants to hear about proposed projects.

Simple answer that many don't want to hear....you don't. Netflix doesn't want your ideas, nor do they want to hear about them. They work with select producers / production companies to do all their originals, etc. On the flip side, if you get into a top tier festival (TORONTO, CANNES, etc) you might stand the chance of getting picked up, which could open the door to future pitches. Part of this business is being realistic. For those that are not, they waste years of their life reaching for something that's not attainable. Best wishes to you!

Typically, a series will be developed and produced before being picked up by NF. If a local producer has already produced and sold several projects to NF, then they might be able to pre-sell a project. So, most of the European series on NF were produced locally, for one of the local TV channels and usually with some kind of state subsidy. Subsequently, they were sold to NF.

Netflix distribution and netflix original programming (they shell out $ and are your bosses) are two different paths. The latter usually needs a show biz track record or you're well known in your field (NBA player, Seal Soldier, Inventor).

The gates at Netflix are no different than those at SONY, Paramount, Universal or WB. People have lived under this delusion that there are so many platforms now, there's a chance for my work. Yes, there are more platforms and outlets, but the rules haven't changed and in some cases, have become more strict because of the mass amount of productions the streamers do. Align yourself with a producer with 'juice' and a track record like the others have mentioned or make such a great film, there will be a bidding war at Sundance 2025. Deep breaths, you've got this!

All good advise. Approach under the banner and armor of a Netflix accredited good-standing production house who already has the 2 yr.first-look deal with the streamer, or place with Sundance, Nicholls, or other festival//contest and use as lead-in on a query.
