Filmmaking / Directing : "The Greatest Night in Pop" by Nick Phillips

"The Greatest Night in Pop"

Watched this documentary over the weekend and highly recommend. Not only is it a well crafted, intimate look into a decade defining cultural moment, the inception and recording of the all star charity single "We Are the World" (I am old enough to remember it clearly), it is also a effective glimpse into the creative process itself: conceiving an idea, writing and creating the piece of art itself, assembling the talent and team to execute it, managing the personalities and egos during the process, and taking the product out to market. Interesting stuff.

Thanks for the doc recommendation, Nick Phillips. I like watching documentaries, but I haven't had the chance to watch many lately. Which streamer did you watch "The Greatest Night in Pop" on?

Nick Phillips

Maurice Vaughan it's on Netflix, should've included that!

Linwood Bell

It's on Netflix. I enjoyed it, too. Anybody who was doing anything in the '80's was there. It was interesting to see all the different personalities and how intimidating it was even for many of them. Watching Dylan in that situation was something. He wasn't use to that and had a hard time doing what he does. Nice that Stevie was able to put him at ease. To have been just a fly on the wall....

Karmin Mosley

I cannot wait to watch it. I have it sitting in "my list" on Netflix. I will be watching it this weekend.

Nick Phillips

Linwood Bell yes i really enjoyed that section about Dylan's struggles and Stevie helping him out as well!

Nick Phillips It doesn't take much at all to throw any of us off our game. That voice in your head can work against you with just the simplest thing like a bad monitor mix or the instrument your given isn't responding to your touch as it should or Springsteen, Stevie, and Michael are killin' it and your up next.

Maurice Vaughan

Thanks, Nick Phillips. I'll look it up on Netflix.

Stacy Arnell

it was very interesting how it all came together. I wonder if Sheila E regrets leaving.

Oren Shved

Watched it last night and loved it!

Pat Alexander

Keep hearing about this doc! On my list to watch this weekend!

Ashley Renee Smith

I watched it this past weekend! It's a great doc. Although I did have We Are The World stuck in my head all day.
