Producing Partners

Does anyone else have a difficulty in finding Producing Partner(s)? Not investors, but Partners, collaborators that happen to be on the producing side. It's easier to find a producer for hire, but what about a producing partner that would stay with the project from its inception and see it through distribution? Would love to hear about your experiences, advice and comments. Thank you!

Stephen Folker

It's hard to find that.

I've had many times over the years someone liked one of my scripts and wanted to co-produce with me, but after a few months the enthusiasm went dry.

Basically, it is a marriage. Just make sure you have contracts signed and have an "Out"- so you can walk away. Everyone gets divorce in show business

Chris Donald Griffin

Yes I have. I find, the more original and risky the project, the harder it is to find someone to partner with. If most people haven't thought of a particular idea, that means that people just aren't thinking about it. Producers tend to gravitate to stories that have already been on their mind, or something similar.

I've always felt the key to a producing partner is not necessarily seeking out the biggest name but rather someone who shares your vision and intentions and who is willing to run the mile on the project. Most projects take a lot of time so who can you communicate honestly with, continue to grind it out with when the going gets tough and who you can collaborate with creatively when things start moving. It's a chemistry test.

Christopher Tremann

It seems to be difficult. And it all seems to come down to "who you know." Some people luck out and find a good partner early in their careers, but if you're jumping in later, at least in my experience, it's been tougher.

Julian Nabunya

I think it can only happen if either you're personalizing the work relationship ( Producer - partner producer relationship) Or, you're sharing the same intentions with the proposed partner.

Important subject Art Arutyunyan!. Had the experience. Basically it's a lot about compatibility and commitment issues!

This is a great topic Art Arutyunyan , thanks for bringing it up. It is hard. Long-term commitment plus chemistry, shared interests, and complementary skills aren't easy to find!
