Hello -- I'm Chris Lynch. I look forward to meeting all of you.
My goal for this workshop is to write a pilot for a spy drama series that takes place in Berlin during the Cold War. I was a diplomat at the US Embassy in Bonn, West Germany from 1980-82,. John Le Carre, who was MI-6, wrote a novel in 1968 about his experiences at the UK Embassy in Bonn called 'A Small Town in Germany." I read that book after I arrived and I felt I was a part of the book as I daily passed by the British Embassy and other Bonn locations in the novel. I am interested in creating a TV/Streamer series, rather than a novel. But, like Le Carre, I want to draw from my experiences (such as crossing Check Point Charley) while keeping to the historical truth AND most importantly, creating an engaging series (Full disclosure, I worked as a US State Department Officer -- I don't think I would have been very effective as a spook.)

Hi, I'm Hobart Carraway Jr. Most of my friends call me Bart for short. So, everyone feel free to refer to me as Bart... I have written a western novel entitled "Bass Reeves - The Buffalo marshal". I have began writing a screenplay based on my novel. ( copyright 2018) I first attempted to write a feature film version, however after several attempts it didn't work. I have decided a limited series is better suited for a more encompassing story that I want to tell. Bass was the first African American Deputy U.S.Marshal in the former Indian Territory, now known as the State of Oklahoma. He was appointed in 1875 by Judge Isaac C Parker, AKA, "The Hanging Judge". The story illustrates some of the problems that Bass (a black man) experienced, enforcing criminal law, ten years after the Civil War ended during the reconstruction Period. The story also tells of the emotional effects it had on his personal and family life. As a retired black cop, of 32 years, I can understand some of the experiences that he lived. It'll take about three two hour episodes for a full story. I would like to see shown on a cable

C.E.Heath here. Greetings! I want to share a favorite quote that not only applies to all fictional writing, but is a goal that I strive for:
“…the quality the greatest novelists have always had in common is that of making their people live.”
Edith Wharton, 'The Writing of Fiction'
Looking forward to Saturday..

Great opportunity. Making the world feel real and using it to compliment the story is a true skill.

I have very much appreciated Anna's admonition to compose ten philosophical guidelines by which to craft historical fiction. I will be working on my ten starting this week!

I also came in a little late. Had some problems with my Zoom. Anna's class eased several of my fears. I'm adapting a novel I wrote -"Bass Reeves - The Buffalo Marshal (copyright 2018)" since there is already a cable TV series about him. My projected approach is different. The points made about fiction VS facts were excellent and most helpful.
