Screenwriting : Gauntlet Update by Matthew Kelcourse

Gauntlet Update

3 months after entry, my entry did not advance to level two (as expected) but was excited to receive feedback from 7 readers. From my POV, it was less helpful and insightful than I was hoping for, but others may have a different experience. If you're looking to pitch your work, I say go for it. If you're looking for valuable feedback/coverage, you may want to look elsewhere. Write on!

Thanks for the update, Matthew Kelcourse. Write on too!

Thx for the update Matthew Kelcourse , sharing my experience too for those interested in the Gauntlet:

I submitted by 4Q family script, "Night of the Living Veg". Logline: "When backyard vegetables roar to life and attack, a nature loving trans-tween must battle cabbages, kale stalks and Grandma's dreaded brussels sprouts to save her brother and survive the night."

It managed to advance to Level 2. They say, "Level 2 of the Gauntlet will have five industry readers (most of whom also work for notable agencies, studios, and production companies) reading at least half of your script. Those that like the script will continue reading to the end. These readers will give notes throughout the read and do a full assessment at the end.

"If the majority of these readers (3 out of 5) choose to RECOMMEND the script, it will progress to Level 3 — the top of the Gauntlet — where it will be read by established writers and producers, as well as agents and managers looking for the next great script or writing talent."

Feels like a high bar!

Will share any update, they estimate 1 July.

Go going, GJ Harvey. Now that I know it works primarily as a pitching service (even having read the fine print), I'll keep that in mind. Cheers :-)

Congratulations on "Night of the Living Veg" reaching Level 2, GJ Harvey! Catchy title and exciting concept! Hope your script keeps advancing!

Update on this, knocked out at Level 2. The comments, feedback, and notes on the page are extensive, some aligned, some contradictory - it feels like an avalanche of different opinions. Will take some time to digest and consider. Most are courteous and constructive, a few feel mean-spirited and cynical. TBH, I don't think I would do this again - I didn't feel short-changed, just unsure where it can take you. Maybe if you've got a killer script then this could really work for you, but in such a subjective realm, difficult to gauge.
