Casting directors often read your resume backward. They start with the special skills to make sure that you can do something that is required of the role (ride a horse, play piano, etc) then they go up to see what training you have, then they go over to the far right of your resume to see the places, organizations, or directors you have worked for, and then look at the role you did.

Thank you for sharing Aaron Marcus I can't believe people skip that. Special Skills are the thing that may give you an edge over someone else.

I agree with you both 100%. Listing classes you have taken is also crucial, especially for those who are just getting started. If you have no experience, look perfect for the role and have taken some good classes, that could make the difference between being asked to read or not. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom here,

Also, if you do scenes from plays in your acting class, you can list that on your resume if you don't have credits. However, instead of putting down the class as the place, I list the name of the theater it was performed in to make it sound more official.

Yes, I have a few resume tips for actors. Like in any resume one should say what value they bring to the production? Here is what I have used but not in the same context “ I bring a unique blend of seasoned acting skills, military discipline, physical fitness, and a strong social media presence, making me a valuable asset to any film production team, committed to delivering powerful and memorable performances.“
These value statements should be unique that will help you stand out. But it must be realistic and that you as an actor can demonstrate these skills at an audition.

As a former Casting Director and when Producing and Directing, after the requisite qualifications we always wanted the most interesting people, as evidenced by the various activities and background on their resume. After all, even if you're only spending a couple hours with someone, much less a couple weeks or months, you want someone who can bring a wide range of experiences as well as skills.

Those are great points, Pamela. I think that some actors forget about the importance of special skills. Thanks again for your information.
