Screenwriting : Quarterfinalist - worth mentioning? by Katherine Blessan

Quarterfinalist - worth mentioning?

I know I should be feeling happy as I've placed in a couple of competitions as a Quarterfinalist - once in the Emerging Screenwriters Action & Adventure Screenplay Competition for my sci-fi dystopian drama P Gen and more recently in the Page Turner Faith Based competition for my period drama. However, although these scripts have gone through several phases of coverage and drafting and they're the best that I can get them (one is on the 10th draft and I am very proud of it!), I do wonder what will it take to become a finalist?? I can't afford to submit to loads of competitions so a lot weighs for me on the few that I do submit to.

I believe the scripts are good enough to open doors to producers and agents, but I don't know whether these competition placements are worth mentioning or not? I'm curious to know what people think?

I wonder, too. Several of my scripts have placed me as quarterfinalist, but the needle didn't move. So, yes, I often wonder as well if it's worth mentioning.

This is sort of the way that I've been going around with my own work: Find a competition, enter, accept any notes that are offered/given, and use those for either new drafts/revisions, or on where I think my script might do better.

If I do have a script that ends up placing in a competition, then I usually add in those details for future submissions.

Granted, I'm still in the revision phase for my own script right now, but some of the feedback I've already gotten has given me some ideas for future projects.
