Your favortie animated movies and why?

I love animated movies, especially from the 80s and 90s. My favorite growing up was The Last Unicorn. It was the first piece of animation that, to my child brain, felt more for adults because of the complex ideas it was dealing with. I didn't understand them all at the time, but I could tell this was something different than regular cartoons.

Sound off with your favorite animated movie and why!

I had The Last Unicorn on VHS growing up, Tom Lapke! It low-key scared the crap out of me. LOL!

My favorites are:

Into The Spider-Verse because it brought my love of comic books and Spider-man to life in a way that no adaptation ever has before.

Hunchback of Notre Dame and Hercules are my favorite Disney movies because the music and stories are so captivating and inspirational.

Batman Mask of the Phantasm because it's a wonderful Batman detective story with heart.

Anastasia because the plot and the music are SO strong. I can probably quote the whole movie by heart.

The Iron Giant for being a family film with so much heart and powerful themes.

Treasure Planet- A completely underrated Disney treasure that provides one of the best coming-of-age adventure literary adaptations through a unique steampunk aesthetic.

Batman The Dark Knight Returns Parts 1 & 2- show how gritty and captivating an adult animated franchise can be. It's a fantastic adaptation of the Frank Miller classic comic.

My favorite Animation movie is Toy Story, Tom Lapke. It has an amazing story, incredible characters/relationships, and fantastic surprises. I was blown away by the movie as a kid. The video game too.

Daniel Husbands

I really enjoyed a lot of animated movies growing up, as the moment Into The Spider Verse is at the top of my list for very much the same way as Ashley.

As a child the Disney Robin Hood was one of my favorites as well as The Land Before Time. I've always loved dino movies, even got a custom children's book with me and dinosaurs for a birthday present as a child. The whole Land Before Time Series was watched many times.

The Lion King was up on my list for a while as well, along with the original Jungle Book, no one does music like that anymore.

Daniel Husbands I long for the sweeping majesty of 90s animated film music. Between Lion King, The Prince of Egypt, and Hercules (not my favorite animated film, but god damn did Phil Collins go hard with the music in that), it was a period of an embarrassment of riches. I feel like we are due for another resurgence.

Sam Sokolow

I have 3 I have to mention...

My favorite animated movie will always be TOY STORY because it is amazing in every way, it changed the world of animation and my brother wrote the script so its on it's own level.

But I'm also a huge fan of 80's pop culture and, while some themes are dated and its filled with content not suitable for kids, I love HEAVY METAL, Gerald Potterton's 1981 cult classic and Ralph Bakshi's AMERICAN POP, also from 1981.

Petra Jurasova

With children I watching very often Shrek, Toy Story, Despicable Me, Monsters s.r.o. Moana, Lion Madagaskar.. l think it’s lots of them. :) they love animated movies. :)

That's pretty cool that your brother wrote Toy Story, Sam Sokolow!
