Introduce Yourself : Hey all! by John Martinez

John Martinez

Hey all!

I recently completed my first short - “The Days of Knight: Chapter 3”…I decided to try the film festival circuit to see how it would be received. The response has been extremely positive! A few wins, a few finalists, semi-finalists, etc.

Prior filming the short, I took a couple of webinars on Stage 32 to gain some more insight and learn something new. I was more excited after the webinars because my vision aligned with what the instructors were discussing on the filmmaking process.

I’m truly grateful to have found Stage 32.

Looking forward to networking with everyone!

All the best!

John

It's great to meet you, John Martinez. Congratulations on completing your first short! And congratulations on the success it's had on the film festival circuit! That's a cool office set up!

John Martinez

Great meeting you Maurice!!!! Thank you so much! I truly appreciate it!

Thanks it helps with the creative process!

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, John Martinez. I started outlining a racing script this summer, and I used toy cars to come up with ideas/act out the scenes. Action figures help too.

Did you see these blogs about networking: www.stage32.com/blog/tags/networking-41

John Martinez

Makes sense! Thanks for the networking blogs! There’s a lot great topics! Much appreciated!

Eon C. Rambally

Great seeing you here John Martinez. I like the idea of the Knight Chess piece advertised!

John Martinez

Hey Eon!!! Great meeting you!!!

Thank you!!! I truly appreciate it!

I was trying to come up with something catchy. The knight piece is so interesting visually,

I’m working on a follow up to this short and the knight piece will be back!

Thanks again for reaching out!

That's amazing news John Martinez! Having a short in the festival circuit is a great way to have your work reach a wider audience and it's an excellent confidence boost as well! I've done it a couple time myself. Keep up the good work!

John Martinez

Nick - thank you! Much appreciated!

Exactly! The film festival circuit is like an out of control roller coaster ride! I’m enjoying the experience! I’m so fascinated how different parts of the world view the short.

It’s extremely satisfying knowing that everyone can relate to it and it sure does boost my confidence and the decisions I made.

Thanks again for reaching out!!! I truly appreciate it!

Fantasmagorical, John Martinez. That's so kool to hear about your success... have a great journey!

Jon Weisberg

Hi, John. Congrats on your short film, "The Days of Knight: Chapter 3." Is it a film about the chess world (ie., Queen's Gambit)? My son was very active in the chess world as a kid and still coaches. I'd love to see it some time.

John Martinez

Hey Jon! Great meeting you! I love the game chess…always thinking three moves ahead. Unfortunately, the short is not a chess movie per se.. But I love all the chess movies that have been made. There are so good!

Here’s a synopsis: “A highly trained operative, belonging to a clandestine ancient group of expert mercenaries, is given a mission to recover a valuable item for one of the 13 most influential families on Earth. As war breaks out and alliances formed centuries ago crumble, survival becomes the top priority for everyone involved.”

I mapped out a little universe…I’m just filming segments that tell parts of the story. The goal is to have each short being completely different. Afterwards, I’m going to write a screenplay to have ready. But I’m going to focus on other projects. I’m just trying to up my filmmaking abilities. The next short will be fun to film and see how it does on film festival circuit…

Thanks for reaching out!!! I truly appreciate it!!!

Congratulations John Martinez - Bravo! A major achievement and fantastic to hear you are benefiting from the @stage32 experience!

John Martinez

Hey Jack! Thank you! I truly appreciate your support!!!

Amanda Toney

I love this post, John, and congrats on your film! What Stage 32 webinars did you take that you found helpful?

John Martinez

Hi Amanda! Thank you!!! I truly appreciate it! The two webinars I found extremely helpful fascinating and helpful was: Karina Wilson's webinar on " How to write an elevated horror screenplay". That webinar in my opinion crosses multiple genres not just horror. The other was "How To Maximize The Impact Of Your Short Film: Distribution, PR, Festivals and More." That helped with the film festival experience. I learned a few things to do next time around. I still have a few other webinars to take but they all are extremely helpful! Karina's presentation though enforced everything about my script/short and my short has been successful for a first timer...in my opinion. Thank you and everyone else at Stage 32...lifesavers!!!
