Yes, it's that's month again when we all commit to the NWC and focus on our projects.
In week three, we are being asked what is the best advice we've been given as screenwriters. Mine would be:
"Don't ape what's on the screen at the moment. Be yourself and don't try to be anyone else. You have a story to tell, so don't use someone else's pen to write it."

Great advice, Geoff Hall! I used to chase trends, and it never worked out.

Maurice Vaughan yeah, Maurice. Don't chase the trend, be the trend.

Exactly, Geoff Hall! Some of the best movies I've seen recently were really unique/outside the box.

Two great points there about chasing trends and dulling your voice. Excellent advice.

Good words, Geoff Hall. Even if your story is out of season for the execs (or not something one isn't looking for), it's for you, so write it.

So true, Geoff Hall! We writers have our own stories based off our experiences and lives. Though themes might be similar to other stories, it's how the writer tells the story that's different, putting their own self into the story, characters, and acts.

Leonardo Ramirez for everything there is a season, right. Which means there’s a season for the things we are writing.

John Mezes thanks, John. What was it that Emily Dickinson, ‘tell it slant’. And that slant is our POV, or our character that tells a story in, dare I say it, an original or unique way.
