It is best for actors to work for free with an Indie comapny to build out their credits and experience. Teach a class on Youtube on Acting?

Thanks for sharing great ideas, Mark. Yes, doing independent films is a great way to get experience in front of a camera, build a resume and begin to create an acting reel. Thank you for sharing your ideas here.

Great tips as always Aaron Marcus. So for those just starting out, best step to take first is to accumulate the credits before approaching an agent? Also, what about casting directors that are local? Should those be approached directly?

It is always better to have some credits to show an agent you want to work with. That way, they can feel more comfortable submitting you and feel confident you will give a good audition. Actors absolutely can reach out to a local casting director directly by sending them a headshot/resume and short cover letter.

Great. Thanks so much Aaron Marcus. How many credits would you suggest be listed?

Maybe just one or two to let the agent know that you have done some work in the industry. In some ways, the training in the education section or the resume and special skills can also be incredibly helpful. If you can let the agent know that you have taken some great classes with respected teachers, then you might get representation from an agent, even without any actual bookings. That lets the agent know you are just beginning, but have studied with some respected teachers.
