Introduce Yourself : An introduction from me to you! by Lonnie James

An introduction from me to you!

Hello everyone, as a new member I just wanted to make an introductory post and meet new people. I'll be honest, I'm new to screenwriting though I've always had a passion for storytelling and rich narratives. My passions for video games have pushed my want for rich stories in all forms of media, and I wish to one day be able to bring my writings to life on the screens of millions. I came here due to suggestions after having my first ever fan script, Resident Evil: Day 0, read and enjoyed by several friends and some strangers. While it was of course my personal testing of the waters, I enjoyed my first attempt so much I plan to continue and hopefully build up a professional portfolio of original scripts, fan-scripts, and rich ideas! I hope we can all come together in discussion and furthering our own goals together!

Congratulations on your first fan script being read and enjoyed by several friends and strangers! I was a big Resident Evil fan growing up. I wrote a feature script way back that had RE elements in it. I've written some fan fiction short scripts. I put them in my portfolio like you're planning on doing.

Lonnie James

Mike Childress I appreciate the welcome! I'll say the fan script basically wrote itself, my only issue was dedication between being a father and full time worker. I highly suggest them, especially if you are making one on something you're passionate about, as I am on Resident Evil. For my next "fan script" I was actually working on a Batman fan script titled "Batman Origins" which follows Bruce Wayne slowly becoming Batman and his actions prior to assuming the mantle; Although, that has been put on an hiatus. I am currently writing an original script, with the goal to be finished completely within a months time to submit into the Big Break scriptwriters contest.

I'm also somewhat of a fan of Sci-Fi, though I haven't ever attempted to write the genre myself. So your "Day Zero" pilot sounds intriguing and I'd be interested in hearing more about it in the near future if possible. I believe having a great support network is imperative to achieving success in any field. Something I lack a bit, though am always willing to lend my eyes as an enjoyer of various content.

Maurice Vaughan I appreciate the links to further materials as well as the thanks on my fan script! Resident Evil made up a large portion of my childhood, into my adult life! I'd love to maybe one day read some of your RE short scripts if possible! I'm still trying to navigate on just how to make a portfolio, though i hear it is absolutely key in the industry as a professional, so I'll definitely work on figuring it out.

Lonnie James

Mike Childress I'll keep that in mind for future scripts in that realm. I plan to cover scripts for films, tv, and even video games. I've technically written scripts before for my voice acted videos on youtube, though those are based in Dragon Ball what if territory and I don't really consider them for what I'm wanting to do here... not to mention that project fell through with my voice actors as well as my life getting busier. Even did some voices myself to cover for those that didn't participate or couldn't for certain characters.

I'd be open to carrying this on in messages here or otherwise, I could always use some friendly advice and even guidance! I'm completely new to this field or goal, and while people with no experience say I have great potential I could use more experience inputs as well one day. Also a Punisher V Wolverine story might do well for your idea. I have to stop myself though lol, my brain is already coming up with potential ideas for a story with those two and It'd distract from my current goal if I get too caught in thought.

You're welcome, Lonnie James. I actually haven't written any RE short scripts. I wrote a Lighthead fan fiction and a slasherverse fan fiction (both short scripts). I also wrote the opening scene of a Fast & Furious fan fiction. I'm working on a Friday the 13th fan fiction short.

Yeah, a portfolio is really important. Audrey Knox (Writer, Story Consultant, & Former Literary Manager) had an Ask Me Anything in the Writers' Room Lounge the other week, focused on "How To Build Your Portfolio To Get Noticed By Reps." You have to be a WR member to access the AMA though. www.stage32.com/lounge/vip/Ask-Me-Anything-AMA-Friday-1-31-to-Saturday-2...

Kelly Edwards also taught a webinar called "How To Build Your Portfolio As A Writer To Get Noticed By Reps + 3 Worksheets." www.stage32.com/education/products/how-to-build-your-portfolio-as-a-writ...
