Producing : Question for fellow indie producers... by Maureen Mahon

Question for fellow indie producers...

I worked as a legal secretary in entertainment law firms, and as an executive assistant in Business and Legal Affairs at studios for more than 20 years. I've always enjoyed drafting contracts. Since we all go through dry periods while we're trying to get our movies made, I'm thinking of getting my Paralegal certification as a side hustle. It takes a year, so it's a commitment, but once I have it, I can be a resource for producers (or anyone, really) who needs contracts drafted for less than an attorney would charge. Of course, I would not be qualified to negotiate your contracts, but if you negotiated them yourselves, I could make sure you have all of the necessary clauses to protect yourselves. And if you do have an attorney do the negotiations for you, I can draft your agreements with the terms negotiated by him or her. It could save you hundreds of dollars (maybe more if you need a lot of contracts drafted). Is this a service you guys would be interested in?

Yes. It's a win for you and win for indie producers.
