While many years have past since Miguel and Tran made the film The Ningyo almost entirely in their home, it is still a great inspiration for aspiring filmmakers. This making-of shows many examples of creative ways to cut costs. Pure genius!

Thanks for sharing, Patrik Gyltefors. It's incredible that they made The Ningyo almost entirely in their home! The "hats on sticks" is a great idea, especially for micro-budget projects!

That’s such a great share, Patrik Gyltefors, thank you! I love seeing how they used practical effects and in-home set builds to bring such an immersive world to life. It’s incredibly inspiring for indie filmmakers working with limited resources, it shows what’s possible when you lean into creativity and collaboration.
Has anyone else here experimented with DIY builds or in-house effects to cut costs while keeping quality high? Would love to hear how others are innovating like this!

This is so cool - what indie filmmaking is all about! So creatively inspirational. I love their ingenuity and attention to detail and unyielding passion.
The closest I've come - and its not even remotely close - was filming at a windshield while boucing the car's hood with two people slowly spinning lights actross the hood to make it look like people we're driving. Did it in a friend's driveway. Was amazingly convincing. I also once saw a DP put chapstick around a glass plate and mount that at the end of the lens and it was an in-the-camera practical way to create a dreamy flashback scene. That guy actually won a cinematography Emmy for that movie.

Thank you for sharing Patrik Gyltefors. I feel like I needed this video. It was inspiring especially for someone who has been on plenty of budget friendly sets.
