Do short film Awards really make a difference?

My short film 'Choke Mate' is currently up for Shooting People's 'Film of the Month' award. https://shootingpeople.org/watch/114263/choke-mate This is great! The team involved really appreciate the support and its great to be recognised for the hard work. Though does anyone think short film awards make a difference to the industry in anyway or are they just nice for the filmmakers to be recognised for their work to the arts?

Depends upon the award. An Oscar, Palm De Orr, winning Sundance, sure. Otherwise, no.

I really think it's a matter of how you use this award. If you sit around and wait for it to open doors for you then it won't help. But if you use it as a means to network, get more people interested in your work, getting investor interest then I believe a short film can do a lot for you. It really always just comes down to the work you're willing to put in for yourself and marketing. Congrats that's amazing! All accomplishments are part of the journey so feel proud that your work was recognized. :)
