Hello everyone! My name is Katie Young, and I'm a director. I started at age 17, the summer after I graduated high school (2011), with a short script I'd written called Deadly Notes, some rented sound equipment, and a DP who saved the project from my family's camcorder. At the time, I was a writer and an actor who had some experience with indie film and wanted to see her screenplay produced. So I made it happen. That statement sums up my work -- if I want to direct something, I make it happen. Ideally, I'd like to work with a producer who can help me with the logistics and with funding so that I can do bigger and better projects, but when that doesn't work out I don't let it stop me. In February I'm filming a comedic short on less than $100, made possible by all the other industry professionals who, like me, will trade the salary we'd like to have for the experience we need. I'm in Austin, TX from May to August every year, but the rest of the time I'm in L.A. and all year long I'm looking to work on new projects and make connections with people in the industry. What I love about film is that so many people can come together and create something that wouldn't be the same if it was just up to one of them.
