A Screenwriter's Confession

Hello all. This is my first attempt to blogging on this page. I feel like group therapy here. Haha. Well, here's my first confession. I have been blessed with an imagination beyond measure. I have 5 screenplay ideas that I believe will be as close to original as they come. I attempt each time to bring this world I created on paper. Problem is, I have ADHD and I lose focus fast. I'm also an actor and producer. Things are slow here right now so I have plenty of time to write. I would love to make a career out of my stories. I even thought about starting with children's books. Basically does anyone have any tips or suggestions that can help me with this problem? I would love to join a group of screenwriters. I think that could help me along the way. I live in Florida but always had the passion to go to New York. It's weird, but I feel like something is telling me to go there for some odd reason. Well, anyhow this is one of my confessions. Thanks for reading. - E

Have you searched on meetup.com to see if there are any local screenwriting or general writing groups?

Every writer faces a personal challenge. The writers that overcome those challenges are the ones who move from five screenplay ideas to five finished screenplays. I know it's not easy, I know it's extremely difficult. But what option s do you have. Not write because of your ADHD? Or write in spite of it? Do you have the passion to overcome your loss of focus?

Eli, I feel you sir...or Bro, or homie, or however you prefer to communicate. I too have a issues with ADHD, luckily I live in a great State to help me deal with that. I say, write down all 5 ideas, in 5 different notebooks, work on them all at once or one at a time, stay honest, be true to you, and GO to NYC....

Start writing one and do not stop until you finish.

I agree with William. Personally I have to shut out everything else until a given task is complete.

Try setting aside segments of your day dedicated to writing. If your are able to stick with a task for a half hour schedule 2 or 3 different sessions a day if you can go longer like 3 hours before you lose focus stick with that once a day at a specific time every day. If you do your best work in the morning schedule it for then. Otherwise just make it consistent and treat it like another job you must go to. Good luck.

Unless your cashed up, stay put, get known, then move to NY. Do you take medication for ADHD as I know the medication can help you focus. Work around your problem and write a bit at a time with multiple breaks. While on a break, record your ideas on a voice message on your phone, that way you stay in the theme and it will be easier to commence writing again. Good luck and hope to watch your movies one day. Passion can overcome anything.

Hey there! Florida is not far from Atlanta! We are really rocking it out in the movie-making business lately...Pinewood, Screen Gems, Tyler Perry among a few studios are setting up shop here. In the meantime, consider some workshops or meetups in your area...I found a ton here just by going on www.meetup.com when I was starting to really write my screenplays.
